    Duties Description The Trades Generalist will be required to provide and accomplish technical and trade-specific maintenance, construction, and restoration services for DEC infrastructure and facilities. Must have general knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, and electrical trades. Must be able to perform the described job duties/skills according to work orders or verbal instructions by inspecting the work site to determine materials, equipment, tool requirements, and method to be used; developing a plan or lay out for the project or following a blueprint or schematic; assembling, fabricating, or building and installing materials, equipment, or fixtures as required by the scope of work. May be required to operate diverse types of equipment and have a good working knowledge of all equipment being operated. Procurement of supplies and materials purchased from vendors under state contract, as well as utilizing preferred sources as required. Track supplies, materials, and equipment to ensure they are used properly. Accurate and timely submission of timesheets, reports, and work orders.

     

    Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.

     

    Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2026, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview. Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.Must be able to work in remote areas.Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required.Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required.Weekends and holidays may be required.
