    Duties Description The Biological Sciences Department at the State University of New York at Old Westbury is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Evolution starting Fall 2026. Candidate must have a Ph.D. in Biology or related field, preferably with postdoctoral experience, undergraduate teaching experience, and a publication track record in the field of Evolution commensurate with experience. We seek a highly trained individual who is committed to liberal arts education and can demonstrate excellence in teaching and research while working with a culturally diverse student population. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in Evolution, as well as introductory and non-major courses as needed. The candidate will be expected to develop a strong extramurally funded research program that involves undergraduate students. Involvement in college service is also expected.

     

    Minimum Qualifications Required Qualifications:Ph.D. in Biology with a specialization and/or post-doctoral experience in Evolution.Experience teaching biology courses at the undergraduate level.A record of recent peer-reviewed publications in the required area of specialization.The potential to develop an extramurally funded undergraduate research project in the required area of specialization.Preferred Qualifications:Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based teaching approaches.Experience teaching undergraduate biology courses in the required area of specialization.Experience teaching a culturally diverse undergraduate student population.Experience mentoring undergraduate students in research.A demonstrated plan to integrate research into the curriculum.Currently funded research and/or a record of successful grantsmanship.
