As the Lead Wastewater Operator in Salado, TX, you will be the sole operator responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and performance of a wastewater treatment facility. This position requires a high level of trustworthiness, ownership, and reliability, as you will independently operate all aspects of the site to ensure uninterrupted service and regulatory compliance.
While you will be the only full-time operator at this location, you will collaborate with a nearby Jacobs team for support and coordination, and report directly to a local manager. This role demands strong self-leadership, initiative, and accountability, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with off-site colleagues.
Key Responsibilities:
• Operate and maintain all systems within the wastewater treatment facility and associated lift stations.
• Monitor and adjust treatment processes to ensure optimal performance.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance.
• Perform laboratory tests (e.g., pH, DO, total chlorine residual) to support process control.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
• Maintain accurate records and reports using data management systems.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for the facility, demonstrating ownership and proactive problem-solving.
• Coordinate with nearby Jacobs team members and communicate regularly with the local manager.
• Technical knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and equipment (pumps, filters, aeration systems).
• Laboratory skills for basic water quality testing and analysis.
• Self-leadership and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve operational issues.
• Regulatory awareness of environmental standards and reporting requirements.
• Computer proficiency with data entry, reporting software, and SCADA systems.
• TCEQ Wastewater Class B Wastewater License required or ability to obtain through reciprocity with 6 months of hire
• Four (4)+ years of experience in operating water/wastewater treatment plants
• Possess a valid driver’s license with no major infractions
Ideally, you’ll also have:
• TCEQ Wastewater Class A Operator License
• Six (6) years of experience operating water/wastewater treatment plants
• Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools employed in the general operation of engines, pumps, valves, motors, and related equipment; general maintenance work; safe work practices; principles and methods of biological and chemical sewage analyses, effects and problems of industrial waste in water/wastewater treatment processes, principles of supervision
• Knowledge of computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, data management systems and be able to operate plant PLC’s and SCADA systems

The work areas may be indoor, outdoor, have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, and chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
