Purpose and Scope:
The Disease Mechanism Research team at Astellas West Coast Innovation Center is looking for a passionate and driven individual to join our fast past paced team. This position will support oncology disease mechanism research with a dynamic drug discovery environment. The scientist will apply deep expertise in molecular biology, cell biology and histology to advance experimental strategies and data generation. This role will contribute towards efforts of understanding drug and disease mechanisms of action and will require collaboration with internal and external project teams to drive progress towards research milestones. This position will be located on site in South San Francisco.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
+ Design and perform in vitro studies to evaluate mechanisms of action of therapeutic molecules.
+ Perform a wide range of molecular biology (nucleic acid isolation, PCR, Western Blot, cell line engineering, etc.) assays
+ Perform a range of cellular assays including multiparametric flow cytometry
+ Learn and implement cutting edge techniques including but not limited to laser capture microdissection, CRISPR and next generation sequencing under the mentorship and supervision of senior researchers
+ Collaborate with personnel from different research groups (protein engineering, histology, in-vivo pharmacology, discovery)
+ Consistently deliver high-quality, actionable data and actively participate and present at cross-departmental teams and meeting
+ Troubleshoot protocols, develop clear experimental pipelines, maintain detailed records, analyze results, and contribute ideas to research projects
+ Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, and accurately keep and maintain records
Qualifications
Required:
+ B.A./B.S + 5 years’ experience or M.A./M.S. + 3 years’ experience
+ Relevant prior research or industry experience in an oncology drug discovery setting
+ Broad knowledge of cancer biology and independence in critical thinking and scientific achievement
+ Experience with a broad range of cellular and biochemical techniques, including mammalian & tumor cell culture and engineering, signaling and viability assays, immuno-blotting, and FACS.
Preferred:
+ Experience with lentivirus transduction and CRISPR cell line modification and IF/IHC
+ Experience in next generation sequencing library prep (Illumina Platform)
+ Experience with mass spec sample preparation and laser capture microdissection
Working Environment:
+ This position is based in South San Francisco, CA, USA and requires on-site work.
**Salary Range:** $79,800-114,000 (NOTE: Final salary could be more or less, based on experience)
