BIOLOGIST 1-3/ MONROE
This position is located in the LDWF Monroe Region and will receive direct supervision from a Biologist Supervisor. This position is responsible for providing technical assistance to landowners within Union, Ouachita, and Caldwell parishes. The incumbent of this position conducts field surveys, research projects, habitat development, harvest surveys, and other activities as assigned. This position will also collect and provide data to be used in establishing research programs, setting season dates and bag/size limits.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate for this position will have a background in wildlife habitat management techniques and/or a demonstrated willingness to learn more about these practices.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources.

Job Duties and Other Information
JOB DUTIES
Some of the duties for this position include the following:
Keep landowners informed of federal programs and funds available for the enhancement of habitat on their lands.
Keeps abreast of funds available for habitat enhancement of private lands.
Works closely with agency counterparts, such as the Natural Resource Conservation Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and others in the enhancement of private lands habitat.
Conducts education and outreach activities regarding wildlife management in parishes of responsibility.
Maintains contact with Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP) participants.
Conducts meetings with landowners and informs groups of upcoming regulatory changes.
Assesses wildlife populations and habitat conditions through standardized surveys and general reconnaissance.
Provides conflict resolution and technical assistance for black bears.
Conducts trapping and banding operations for doves, turkeys, ducks, and other wildlife.
Collects biological samples for wildlife disease monitoring activities.
Provides assistance to landowners, private citizens, governmental agencies, and businesses with nuisance wildlife issues.
POSITION- SPECIFIC DETAILS:
This position is domiciled in Ouachita Parish.
Appointment Type:Job appointment, probational appointment, promotional, or detail to special duty.
If filled as a job appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a probational appointment should funding become available. Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if selected.
Career Progression:This position participates in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and is advertised as a Biologist 1, 2 or 3. The level at which the vacancy is filled will be determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected.
