Job Summary
The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering’s Civil and Environmental Engineering department is seeking candidates for the Research Engineer position. This position will be housed within the Stormwater Research Facility program (AU-SRF ) and will support ongoing and new testing and research programs. Work duties will be split between the AU-SRF located in Opelika, AL (80%) and main campus (20%).
Specific job duties will include coordinating with AU-SRF staff to plan, set up, and execute standardized product testing; managing materials, equipment, and instrumentation for field and laboratory experiments; collecting, organizing, and analyzing data; preparing technical reports and presentations; assisting with the development and refinement of experimental protocols; supporting efforts to identify and secure new testing contracts and research collaborations; and contributing to communications and documentation related to AU-SRF programs and findings.
In addition, the individual selected for this position will assist other AU-SRF staff to encourage research and collaboration focused on stormwater management. They may assist AU-SRF with trainings, outreach events, county-based events, and other educational events. They will also assist with the coordination and facilitation of AU-SRF stormwater training workshops (Installer Training, Field Days, etc.).
The individual must be willing to assist other AU-SRF staff to identify and seek extramural funds, implement project deliverables, and complete required reporting for grants.

Essential Functions
+ Performs a variety of research and development projects requiring the applications of professional engineering practices and principles.
+ Operates, maintains, and repairs specialized equipment.
+ Advises faculty, postdocs, students, and staff with design, modification, prototype, processes, analysis procedures, and other engineering solutions.
+ Designs and fabricates equipment, materials, systems utilizing engineering practices and principles. • Performs failure analysis and other issues.
+ Ensures supplies are available and operational for use in projects.
+ May manage local computer systems for laboratory functionality.
+ Develops proposals, budgets, schedules and progress reports and presents results.
+ Evaluates findings to develop new concepts, equipment, or processes.
+ Prepares technical reports for long and short-range planning.

**Level I:** Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering that is relevant to the area of research. Zero years of experience.
**Level II:** Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering that is relevant to the area of research. Two years of experience in engineering and research practices and principles.
**Substitution allowed for Education:** When a candidate has the required experience, but lacks the required education, they may normally apply additional relevant experience toward the education requirement, at a rate of two (2) years relevant experience per year of required education.
**Substitution allowed for Experience:** When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.

Desired Qualifications include experience with the following:
+ stormwater management, including understanding the design, functionality and expected performance of construction and/or post-construction stormwater practices;
+ planning, coordinating, and facilitating bench-scale and large-scale standardized research experiments;
+ strong skills in technical report writing, data interpretation, and documentation for both internal and external stakeholders;
+ Proven ability to organize tasks, manage timelines, track progress, and meet deadlines across multiple concurrent projects;
+ familiarity with instrumentation, sensors, and data acquisition systems used in environmental or civil engineering research;
+ holding relevant professional licensure and/or certifications, such as a Professional Engineer (PE) license, Professional Licensed Architect (PLA ), Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC ), or similar credentials.
The ideal candidate is a proactive individual who can set goals and priorities, seek assistance when needed, and complete assigned tasks on time. They should be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and agencies. Some travel and evening/weekend work may be required.
