Position Overview
The Materials Management/Environment Service Technician (MPEST) provides cleaning and purchasing services to the OR/Outpatient Infusion department. The position is responsible for counting, computing, stocking, and distributing supplies used in the perioperative services department. The MPEST may provide other services as necessary to improve the department's operating efficiency.
Duties/Responsibilities:
+ Sanitize all furniture and equipment in the OR and outpatient department, following established procedures for housekeeping standards and infection control, per AORN standards.
+ Dust and sanitize floors in service area. Ensure mop buckets are filled with appropriate disinfectants per standardized guidelines.
+ Empty trash containers and replaces plastic liners. Removes hazardous materials (sharps, chemotherapy containers) and dispose them in appropriate areas.
+ Arrange equipment and furniture according to departmental diagrams.
+ Scour and polish sink, mirrors, stool, e-ray vests, wheelchairs, and similar equipment.
+ Wipe off all surfaces following established procedures.
+ Replenish supplies of tissue, soap and towels in areas as needed.
+ Polish stainless steel, clean and polishes glass panels in doors, windows, light fixtures, etc.
+ Maintain utility rooms, storage rooms and carts in an orderly and clean manner, making sure supplies are stocked appropriately.
+ Carry out the cleaning of each area of the surgical services/outpatient department according to specific guidelines for each area
+ Complete OR/OP/Anesthesia inventory accurately. Count, pull stock and restock, check for outdated items and replace them.
+ Stock all supplies in appropriate places within the department.
Required Skills/Abilities:
+ Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
+ Ability to interact with all levels of staff in the facility.
+ Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
+ Must be able to complete basic mathematics
+ Must have ability to read, write, follow oral and written instructions, and keep accurate neat records.
Education and Experience:
+ High school diploma or equivalent required.
Physical Requirements:
+ Full range of body motion, including handling and lifting up to 50 pounds, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
+ Vision and hearing corrected within normal range.
+ Standing and walking for extensive periods of time to store, retrieve, and deliver supplies.
+ Possible exposure to toxic substances ionizing radiation, and medicinal preparations.
+ Possible exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids.
