### Job Duties
Apply food science knowledge to determine best ways to process, package, preserve, store, and distribute food. Create, maintain, and implement quality assurance documents, the Food Safety HARPC plan, and the approved supplier program. Develop standardized production, quality and safety standards. Inspect food processing areas to ensure compliance with government regulations and standards for sanitation, safety, quality, and waste management. Check raw ingredients for maturity or stability for processing, and finished products for safety, quality, and nutritional value. Ensure product formulations abide by AAFCO and state regulations. Research and development of new products. Identify potential risks and focus on root cause analysis and preventative action. Set up and maintain shelf-life studies and validate and analyze study results. Complete ingredient requisition and inventory management including alternate prospect channels. Help create, maintain, and monitor SOPs and SSOPs. Prepare APHIS/USDA documentation and complete inspections. Collect data and perform cost analysis on all product offerings. Use financial modeling and scenario analysis to ensure good profit margins on all products and help with decision making on pricing. Supervise 1 subordinate with the following title: Quality Assurance Assistant.
### Minimum Education Required
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or closely related field.
### Minimum Experience Required
The qualified candidate must have at least 1 year (12 months) of experience in a food safety manager position or closely related occupation. The qualified candidate must also have at least 1 year (12 months) of experience with all of the following: (a) creating, maintaining, and implementing food safety plans; (b) researching and developing new food products; (c) supporting product development through food additive selection, processing optimization, packaging selection, and cost evaluation; (d) ensuring compliance to food standards set up by government agencies, such as USDA, FDA, APHIS, or AAFCO; (e) assisting with inspections; and (f) performing shelf-life studies and validating and analyzing study results. All experience may be gained concurrently.
