Job Description Summary
The Lead Metrology / Lead Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, traceability, and reliability of dimensional inspection processes supporting aerospace component manufacturing. This role combines expertise in measurement science, precision inspection systems, and quality engineering principles to maintain conformance to customer, regulatory, and internal standards. The position drives continuous improvement in measurement methods, gage management, and process capability within a highly technical manufacturing environment.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
+ Ownership includes both quality assurance and quality control. Includes quality assurance of products, services, manufacturing processes. Includes conformance in manufacturing, incoming goods control, product inspection, witness points, etc.
+ Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
+ In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
+ Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
+ A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills or an early people leader who can hire and develop talent. Provides informal guidance to new team members
+ Develop and maintain calibration programs for dimensional gages, CMMs, and precision measurement systems per Industry requirements.
+ Lead measurement system analysis (MSA), gage R&R studies, and uncertainty analysis.
+ Define and validate measurement methods for new or revised aerospace hardware and tooling.
+ Drive measurement automation, digital thread integration, and data integrity improvements.
+ Analyze trends in measurement data to identify systemic variation and implement process improvements.
+ Ensure all metrology processes meet quality requirements.
+ Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits with detailed measurement and calibration documentation.
+ Maintain gage control database and calibration certificates in accordance with quality procedures.
+ Provide training and mentoring for inspectors and quality technicians in dimensional measurement and inspection best practices.
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 4 years manufacturing experience) + minimum of 3 years experience in quality, manufacturing, or metrology engineering (aerospace experience preferred).

+ Minimum 3–5 years of experience in quality, manufacturing, or metrology engineering (aerospace experience preferred).
+ Demonstrated experience with SPC, MSA, and data-driven problem-solving.
+ Strong understanding of AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality management systems.
+ Working knowledge of CMM programming and operation (PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar).
+ Proficient in GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and dimensional analysis.
+ Self-directed, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
+ Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across functions and influence without direct authority.
+ Demonstrated ownership of quality and compliance — maintains high standards of integrity and accuracy.
+ Continuous improvement and Lean mindset — experience with Six Sigma tools preferred.
