About the role The Embedded Firmware Engineer is responsible for the research, development, and application of Firmware/hardware as it relates to new and existing products for the residential market. The individual will primarily work on developing wiring devices such as receptacle, lighting controls, breakers, and other electronic products. The Engineer will be responsible for specification, design, implementation, testing, release, and manufacturing support. Responsibilities Write and maintain firmware for new and existing products Analyze marketing and engineering data to determine software feasibility of product proposal Coordinate with product and project management personnel to clarify or resolve problems and develop efficient coded design Develop technical specifications and identify test requirements for products Prepare product or system software, block diagrams and object code utilizing engineering group input Coordinate and check BOM and MRP requirements with appropriate departments Participate as needed to fabricate engineering prototype Implement process improvements to decrease time to market of new and existing products Additional projects as assigned Qualifications Proficiency with C for embedded applications. Familiarity with python and Linux is a plus Familiarity with industry practices and tools in the implementation of embedded hardware and software technology Ability to read and interpret schematics and PCB layout. Ability to work through low level hardware issues and board bring up Understanding of RTOS concepts and expertise in designing event driven real time firmware Creative with the ability to design a variety of new products from concept through production release Must be adaptable, able to work independently and have excellent decision-making skills Education & Experience Bachelor of science degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science 3+ years’ experience in Embedded hardware & software engineering; design & development of new products Experience is hardware tools such as logic analyzers and oscilloscopes.
