Purpose:
The Health Unit Coordinator supports the Operating Room by ensuring smooth communication and coordination across the surgical team, patients, and families. This role is essential to maintaining efficient patient flow and an organized, welcoming environment within a fast-paced perioperative setting.
Schedule:
Full-time, Monday through Friday, with rotating Saturdays. Variable shifts include 6:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m., 6:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m., 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and 12:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
What You'll Do:
+ Greet and assist patients, families, visitors, and staff, creating a professional and supportive experience.
+ Coordinate patient flow, tests, and procedures to ensure timely and accurate communication between clinical teams.
+ Utilize hospital systems such as eRecord, MARS, Medipac, Bedboard, and Teletracking to maintain accurate patient and unit information.
+ Support daily operations by managing supplies, maintaining logs, and ensuring equipment and communication tools are functioning properly.
+ Uphold hospital policies, confidentiality standards, and safety practices, including HIPAA compliance.
+ Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary staff to promote seamless patient care and efficient OR operations.
+ Participate in departmental initiatives and assist in onboarding or mentoring new team members.

+ Knowledge of medical terminology and computer applications.
+ Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
+ Completion of a Certified Health Unit Secretary course preferred.
+ In the course of duties may be asked to distribute medications to the nurse at the bedside.
+ Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
