    Support Center - Irving

     

    Michaels Staff Architect, is a high-performing individual contributor that is responsible for driving the evolution and maintenance of a holistic enterprise architectural view of the organization's technology landscape, ensuring it directly enables and strategically aligns with core business objectives and goals. The position strategically partners with key stakeholders, including business leaders, product managers, designers, and technology teams, to architect and oversee the implementation of innovative solutions that significantly optimize, transform, and secure the digital platform, enhancing its efficiency, effectiveness, and competitiveness.

     

    Major** **Activites

    Solution Design & Strategy

    + Develop and maintain the architectural blueprint for store systems, ensuring alignment with overall IT architecture.

    + Design robust solutions for seamless in-store experiences, including POS, inventory, and CRM tools.

    + Oversee the integration of diverse technology components, ensuring cohesive retail operations support.

    + Evaluate and select technologies and solutions that align with business requirements.

    + Inform Leadership on advancements in retail software, system integration, and leading platforms, recommending optimal technologies.

    + Design scalable, robust, and fault-tolerant distributed systems to meet evolving business needs.

    + Develop and oversee architectural roadmaps and technology strategies, ensuring alignment with business objectives.

    + Evaluate and adapt new technologies and innovations to keep architecture and technology stack current.

    + Continuously monitor and evaluate the performance of store systems, identifying areas for improvement and proposing enhancements for efficiency and reliability.

    Project Framework

    + Lead the implementation of observability and monitoring frameworks for real-time system insights.

    + Lead the design of automated CI/CD pipelines, promoting swift and reliable code deployments.

    + Design standardized and integrated solutions for easy support and upgrades.

    + Drive the lifecycle of solutions to ensure adherence to the solutions roadmap.

    Governance and Oversight

    + Establish and maintain robust security measures for store systems, safeguarding data and ensuring compliance with industry regulations and standards.

    + Regularly assess system KPIs and create reports for Leadership and key stakeholders to track progress and make informed decisions.

    + Identify potential risks and challenges, developing strategies to mitigate them, including contingency planning.

    + Maintain detailed technical documentation related to store system architecture and configurations, ensuring it is up-to-date and accessible.

    + Advocate for SDLC best practices, asserting on robust code reviews, comprehensive testing frameworks, and thorough documentation.

    Leadership & General Responsibilities

    + Mentor engineering teams on software development best practices, design patterns, and coding standards, and provide technical guidance to store systems development and support teams.

    + Stay current with emerging technologies and assess their potential for enhancing store operations.

    + Engage closely with Technology CoE, Group Technology leaders, System architects, software developers, and operations managers to ensure a unified vision and strategy for end-to-end solutions.

    + Collaborate strategically with Product and Analytics teams to define reporting requirements for Systems under management.

    + Collaborate with the Director of Store Systems in managing vendor relationships, providing technical oversight and expertise in vendor selection and solution integration.

    + Serve as the technical point of contact for cross-functional teams and external vendors, facilitating architectural decisions and discussions.

    + Collaborate closely with Technology leaders to align architectural initiatives with the company’s strategic goals.

    Minimum Education

    + Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience

    Minimum Type of experience the job requires

    + 6-7 years of design/development experience

    + 5+years of design/development of retail store related solutions

    Minimum** **Special Certifications or technical skills

    + Proven experience in designing, building and maintaining distributed retail store systems.

    + In-depth knowledge of retail technology, including POS, inventory management and CRM systems.

    + Experience in cloud computing.

    + Demonstrating proficiency with mobile app development and various hardware devices used in a retail store, is a strong plus.

    + Strong experience in object-oriented analysis and design, service-oriented architecture, micro services, building RESTful APIs and reusable software components.

    + Experience with at least two areas from: Android, Java, React and Spring Boot microservices is required.

    + Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

    + Demonstrating Proficiency with data security and compliance regulations in the retail sector.

    + Demonstrating exceptional leadership and mentoring skills.

    + Comprehensive understanding of observability and monitoring tools and best practices.

    + Proficiency in evaluating and selecting technology solutions and vendors.

    + Solid understanding of app security, performance optimization, and scalability.

    + Ability to think strategically and analyze emerging technologies for their applicability to retail operations.

    + Drives and Influence adoption of best software engineering practices within the organization.

    + Experience collaborating with cross functional teams: product development and engineering team leads.
