    Position Description:

    Performs specialized Post Doctoral work in the planning, conducting and/or supervision of original research at TTUHSC. Responsible for participating in a research project associated with Ph.D studies and the interpretation of the results of publication. Work is performed under supervision of graduate faculty members with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants. The Postdoctoral Fellow will lead mechanistic and translational research projects in preclinical oncology drug development, with an emphasis on signaling pathway modulation, ligand–receptor biology, and therapeutic resistance. The candidate will develop and characterize novel small molecules and peptide-based therapeutics using cellular, molecular, and in vivo models across solid tumors. Projects are supported by NIH, CPRIT, and SBIR mechanisms, with opportunities for high-impact publications, patentable discoveries, and biotech-industry collaborations.

    Major/Essential Functions:

    + Investigate drug–target interactions using techniques such as immunoprecipitation, western blotting, phospho-proteomics, TR-FRET, MST, and co-immunostaining. Elucidate oncogenic and immunomodulatory pathways including Midkine, LIF/LIFR/STAT3, GR signaling, and IFN- activation

    + Perform CRISPR knockouts, overexpression/siRNA modulation, and reporter assays in cancer cell lines. Assess cytotoxicity, synergy (Bliss/HSA models), and rescue experiments to identify therapeutic index and combination strategies.

    + Design and execute syngeneic, xenograft, orthotopic, PDX and women’s health research mouse models of preterm birth, uterine fibroids and endometriosis.

    + Conduct pharmacokinetic (PK), pharmacodynamic (PD), and efficacy evaluations using standard and imaging-based (e.g., IVIS) readouts.

    + Analyze human and mouse tissue samples for RNA/protein expression and immune infiltration using qPCR, IHC/IF, and multiplex imaging. Integrate preclinical findings with transcriptomic datasets and public repositories for signature development.

    + Manuscript and Grant Preparation: Prepare data for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present at national/international conferences. Contribute to writing research grants, patents, and regulatory documentation as needed.

    + Remains current with all licensure, certifications and mandatory compliances and trainings required of this position.

    + Adhere to all policies, procedures and practices (Regents Rules, TTUS, HSECEP OPs, etc.).

    + Personally demonstrate, display, and act in accordance with TTUHSCEP’s values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement and Teamwork). Actively promote and encourage staff across the institution.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Ph.D. in Cancer Biology, Molecular Pharmacology, Biomedical Sciences, or related field

    + Demonstrated expertise in mammalian cell culture, western blotting, and in vivo mouse models

    + Strong publication record n peer-reviewed journals (at least one first-author paper preferred)

    + Excellent oral and written communication skills

    + Experience with receptor-ligand biology (e.g., Midkine, LIF/LIFR, other novel targets)

    + Familiarity with target engagement assays (TR-FRET, MST, CETSA) or transcriptomic analysis (RNA-seq, qPCR)

    + Skilled in Adobe Illustrator, GraphPad Prism, ImageJ/Fiji, and relevant bioinformatics tools

    + Background in women’s health models, immuno-oncology, or endocrine resistance models is a plus
