Senior College Laboratory Technician (Classroom) - The Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture
GENERAL DUTIES
Performs supervisory and/or complex technical functions in laboratories in support of coursework.
-Maintains, fabricates, modifies, and repairs equipment
-Determines equipment requirements, prepares purchase specifications and coordinates acquisitions
-Trains and supervises College Laboratory Technicians, College Assistants, and other laboratory staff
-Manages set up, maintenance, and organization of student laboratories
-Maintains safety and hygiene standards
-Documents laboratory activities
-Performs related duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
Reporting to the Associate Dean of the Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture, the duties of the Senior College Laboratory Technician encompass assisting in the administration and operation of City Labs, the suite of research and teaching laboratories at the architecture school. Typically uses a variety of computational design software, digital fabrication machines, and robotic technologies to perform duties. Normally performs tasks with work priorities and general instructions provided by the supervisor. Exercises judgement in selecting and applying established procedures correctly and in determining when to refer problems to the supervisor.
City Labs’ goals are 1) to advance the frontiers of architecture and urbanism through cutting-edge research in adaptive construction, living systems, and responsive technologies, 2) to create equitable, sustainable, and community-centered solutions by integrating robotics, environmental sensing, and digital design, and 3) to foster innovation and education at the intersection of design, technology, and social impact.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma with a minimum of eight years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate's degree may be substituted for two years' experience and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years' experience. This position may also require the ability to supervise others.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
The preferred candidate will have a Master's degree in Architecture or a field related to the specific assignment and two years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree in Architecture and a minimum of four years of full-time experience in administering a Robotics Lab and a Digital Fabrication Lab.
In addition, applicants should have the following preferred skills:
+ Exceptional organizational, technical, and analytic skills;
+ Knowledge of and experience working with advanced computing, industrial robots, AI, physical computing, and digital fabrication machines (including 3D printers and laser cutters);
+ Experience operating robotics and digital laboratories in an architecture school including experience with research-driven design and robotic fabrication workflows;
+ Knowledge of software for 3D modeling and programming industrial robots;
+ Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including with students and faculty who need to learn to use digital equipment;
+ Be able to set and meet pressured deadlines, to maintain equipment, meet reporting requirements; and manage multiple, often-competing priorities;
+ Must be reliable, a self-motivator and able to collaborate with and motivate others.
COMPENSATION
Salary Range: $83,171 - $88,995. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
