TITLE:

Scoping & Estimating Engineer / Transmission Line Analyst

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position is responsible for providing project scoping, planning, estimating, budgeting, and conceptual design services by complete accurate estimates in support of the Operating Company’s Transmission Line and Substation projects.

This role will work with a small team of very experienced Transmission employees that handle the estimates and pre-design steps/documentation to assist Line Design and Civil Design (primarily with Substations).

The focus will be working with the Head Estimator on the team to develop timely and accurate estimates as requested/needed for Transmission Line projects primarily.

Estimates are done using in-house software and on-the-fly labor calculations using a specific spreadsheet.

Successful individuals have had estimating experience and/or work in Transmission Lines and very willing to learn whichever side they may be less proficient in - obviously having experience in both is a huge plus.

Prior experience with Southern Company and Southern Company systems is also an advantage.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

Performance will be measured based upon quality of output to the result of the product.

o In this case working with substations design forming conceptual design to changes in the field required or requested for add on then working to form specific measurable to timeline and overall cost to stay within budgets.

How well someone adapts to the team as it was heavily mentioned that someone would be working within a close team setting.

Someone not having all the experience leading up would be evaluated as to how quick someone was caught up to speed and learning, adapting to the role, then essentially being efficient with cost estimating and operating with the software TEAMS.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

The client is seeking experience with Transmission Line Design, as they broke down some of the length of time that would create setback for not having design and product knowledge along with estimating and then thirdly the specific software to which this role would be functioning.

Some of the specifics required to be able to fulfill the description would be general knowledge of Transmission Planning along with civil site construction development and operations maintenance.

Detailed knowledge of civil site cost estimating, time management and organization skills sufficient to manage multiple projects with various priorities and completing deadlines.

Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Products and then the ability to establish and maintain peer/customer relationships across organizational lines

A nice to have experience area would be someone having worked in Substation Construction cost estimation working with a program related to TEAMS or having worked with the specific program (again Teams) having partnered with a company indirectly to the Support of Southern Company

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position will be based out of the Alabama Power Corporate Headquarters building and office/engineering environment.

Given the current conditions with groups working remotely temporarily, there's a possibility this role will begin in remote conditions but move back to the corporate office as the company moves through some of their phased re-openings.

There could be an option to work a flex schedule that rotates total hours for the week to 36 and 44 hours.

Dress code is business casual.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr.
