    Process Technology Intern

     

    Marathon Petroleum Company LP (MPC), a recognized leader in the energy industry, is recruiting for Operator Interns. The internship will be approximately 10 weeks long and will take place over the course of the upcoming Spring Quarter 2026. The position(s) will work out of MPC’s Anacortes Refinery. Interns will learn about the roles and responsibilities of an Operator at the refinery.

    Summary

    The goal of this program is to provide the same learning experience as our new operators as well as provide hands-on learning experience to qualified individuals. This internship program provides students with the opportunity to observe operators in a controlled refinery environment while learning about the Operator position at the refinery. All duties performed by the Operator Intern must be performed under the observation of a Qualified Operator.

     

    Operator Interns will be expected to learn a basic understanding of refining process operations. Duties include, but are not limited to monitoring the units, equipment isolation, and collecting stream samples.

    Physical Requirements

    Must be willing to climb ladders and work at height. Work performed at ground level and at heights on concrete, metal grating, gravel, asphalt and piping surfaces, while climbing, lifting 40 pounds plus, and working in confined spaces. Operations Interns are expected to be able to wear all protective equipment including self-contained breathing apparatus. Must use hand tools, and work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.

     

    Safety

     

    Operation interns work in a safety-sensitive environment and successfully complete a rigorous pre-employment assessment process, drug/alcohol and medical screenings, and a background check.

     

    Pay and Benefits

    Qualifications

    The internship program is designed for students who are in a process technology program to develop and apply knowledge, technical skills and interpersonal skills in the workplace.

     

    + Must be a registered Community & Technical College student and enrolled in the 2-year Process Technology Program, or an Associate’s of Applied Science Degree or a recent graduate (one year) of the program.

    + Must have good class standing. No academic probation accepted. This includes a GPA of 2.0 or higher. Will be required to submit college transcripts.

    + Must possess a HS Diploma or GED, be at least 18 years of age, hold a valid driver’s license, and have the ability to obtain a TWIC card before the internship.

    + Candidates must have the ability to learn complex refinery-related material, including have basic math, reading, writing, verbal skills along with basic computer skills.

    + Interns work an 8-hour day shift (6:00am-2:30pm), Monday through Friday. Opportunities to work alternate shifts may be available periodically for learning opportunities.
