Responsibilities Researches and reconciles discrepancies for multiple accounts involving a variety of transactions and multiple systems and/or subsystems to include enterprise resource planning systems (ERPs). Interprets data, identifies related transactions and determines root causes/source of problem identifying trends and workable/corrective solutions. Reviews, researches, analyzes, and processes a variety of recurring standard and nonstandard accounting documents/transactions. Reconciles subsidiary ledgers to general ledgers that involve a variety of transactions generated by a number of different programs and types of funds, and contain frequent and varied adjustments. Researches complex accounting data and performs extensive balancing and reconciling of accounts. Verifies the validity of the appropriation/accounting data against various regulations and policies. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-05) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. For GS-06: Specialized Experience at the GS-05 level is defined as validating, monitoring and maintaining accounting transactions and accounting records; entering accounting data into an automated financial system to process a wide variety of account transactions; identifying and researching discrepancies in account transactions and making adjustments; reconciling subsidiary ledgers to general ledgers for accounts; Researching discrepancies and making adjustments. Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-5 or higher grade in Federal Service. You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement. Education GS-06 Substitution of Education for Experience: Six months of graduate education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required when it is directly related to the work of the position being filled. If you are using education to substitute for the specialized experience, you must submit transcripts at the time you apply. To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (http://www2.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/index.html). Telework availability is limited and will only be provided on a rare case-by-case basis during situations where Agency Leadership has determined that telework serves a compelling DoD need. This position is covered by a bargaining unit. (See DoD Instruction 1400.25, Volume 300, here) This position requires you to obtain and maintain a Level 1 Certification under the DoD Financial Management (FM) Certification Program as a condition of employment. If you are selected, you will have to obtain this certification within two (2) years of your entry on duty in the position unless you are already in a position that requires a Level 1 Certification in which case you must complete the certification within the original 2-year period. Failure to become certified within the required time-frame may be grounds for removal from the position and/or from Federal service. The Security Designation will vary and dependent upon position and may require a secret clearance or higher. Employment in this position requires a background investigation which may delay starting date.
