The 8100 Family Practice Unit at Akron General is a high-acuity, fast-paced, Neuro/Cardiac Telemetry unit with patients that require extensive ADL assistance. Caregivers in this unit care for patients with strokes, pneumonia, FTT, weakness, confusion, sepsis, PEG care, central lines, multiple antibiotic therapies, blood transfusions, IV push/cardiac drip medications and tracheostomy care. As a Nurse Technician in this unit, you will assist with direct patient care activities under the supervision of an RN. Come join a strong, compassionate team full of endless growth. A caregiver in this position works varying shifts.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN. Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter.
+ Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to RN.
+ Assist with keeping patients' rooms clean & orderly.
+ Complete mandatory education and training to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Nursing student in good standing in an accredited nursing school program OR unlicensed graduate of an accredited nursing school program
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
+ Maintain competencies specific to patient population served
+ Satisfactorily complete hospital orientation
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Physical Requirements:
+ Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
+ Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force rarely, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
+ Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment:
+ Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
