ABOUT THE ROLE:
This is an exciting opportunity for an attorney or compliance professional with experience in ERISA health and welfare regulation to join a multi-billion-dollar, high growth, dynamic company and to perform critical client consulting work as part of a broader team, including review, analysis, guidance, and assistance with both federal (ERISA/ACA) and state laws – working directly with, and in support of, internal Hub colleagues and external clients. This is a field-based position with eighty percent of the individual’s time centered on internal and external clients, prospective clients and seminars/webinars.
The Compliance Practice Leader will contribute to the standards and superior client service of Hub locally and regionally and collaborate with our national team on joint policy and market-based initiatives. Other activities will include research, publications, public speaking, peer review, and toolkit preparation. This individual will operate in accordance with objectives, procedures, and goals of Hub International and applicable state and federal law.
+ Presents at prospect and client seminars/webcasts and internal seminars/webcasts to relay compliance requirements\, decision-making considerations, and risks/costs/likely outcomes.
+ Attends prospective client meetings and entertainment opportunities with producer/consultant teams to present compliance capabilities, best practices, tools, and Hub resources.
+ Works closely with clients in securing their program in anticipation of heightened regulatory oversight and enforcement and supports clients when audits (i.e., DOL) are triggered.
+ Promotes client engagement in welfare plan compliance and participate/develop 3-5 year strategic plans working closely with internal teams and key clients. Assist clients in anticipating challenges and develop broad strokes as well as tactical plans for managing issues in advance of compliance failures.
+ Contributes to and collaborates with the National Compliance Team with the intent to share best practices, leverage and provide innovative ideas to strengthen our compliance resources throughout the Employee Benefits practice.
+ Assists in onboarding new compliance consultants that may join the region or come to HUB through acquisition.
+ Creates, shares, coordinates, reviews, monitors, and evaluates educational material or training sessions to help educate internal colleagues and external clients and prospects on compliance topics and resources.
+ Collaborates with other teams within Hub regarding compliance-related issues, including but not limited to regional underwriters, resource managers, and Chief Sales Officers.
+ Participates as requested in Hub national initiatives, such as key account sales and service models, carrier/partner relationship building, vendor selection, and overall relationship maintenance.
+ Collaborates with the National Compliance and Corporate Communications Teams to create straight-forward timely national-level communications on new developments.
+ Represents the company internally and externally as a thought leader on compliance, trends, strategic planning, and leadership.
+ Provides guidance and assistance to sales and service teams on compliance topics and resources.
+ Works with the National Compliance Team to develop training, processes, and templates library in support of training, communication, and other critical client service team initiatives.
+ Other responsibilities as assigned by Manager.
Qualifications:
+ Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree required with at least 8 years’ experience in the employee benefits field ideally with an insurance carrier and/or regional or national brokerage. Focus on career & welfare employee benefits law and in-depth knowledge and capabilities in health reform, ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, tax, and Medicare, and a working knowledge of federal and state HR laws (to facilitate delegation to HR relationships within Hub region).
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including formal and informal presentations to groups and prospects/clients.
+ Ability to communicate complex topics in a practical way.
+ Responsiveness to internal staff as questions/client needs arise – speed and accuracy matter equally.
+ Amiable when encountering difficult situations with clients, business partners, and co-workers.
+ Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office products.
+ Ability to work in a fast paced, rapidly growing, and ever-changing company.
+ Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across varied organizational functions.
+ Proactive and able to prioritize.
