Posting Summary
The STEM Scholars Career Coach provides career coaching to the HHMI STEM Scholars, including support for networking and internship applications. They work closely with fellow Career Coaches, the FOUR office, the STEM Scholars Program Manager, and other campus partners to support STEM Scholars and other undergraduate students in STEM in their career exploration and preparation.
This role will leverage excellent networking skills to develop and foster a robust network of alums, students, faculty/staff, & employers. They teach students how to leverage these networks; guide them in developing an awareness of their values, interests, skills, and competencies; coach them on how to set goals, and find and pursue relevant experiences; and advise them in producing effective application materials, weighing offers, and negotiating salaries.
Like all staff, they actively advance efforts to increase intercultural competency; support the mission, vision, and values of the UVM STEM Scholars program, the department, division and the University; and foster a campus-wide ecosystem that prepares STEM graduates to be curious, courageous and confident in their career pursuits.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Master’s degree and 1-3 years related experience required or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of STEM career paths & career development essential. Effective skills in networking/relationship building, coaching/advising, program development and facilitation, communications, and event planning required. Must be tech savvy. Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive environment important.
Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge of current employment trends in STEM field
Experience working with students and/or in Higher Ed
Experience with career technology (e.g., Handshake, Jobscan, GoinGlobal)
Experience with assessment and instruction.
Anticipated Pay Range $62,500 - $66,000
Other Information
Special Conditions Contingent on continued funding, Occasional evening and/or weekends required (if non-exempt position, may result in overtime), This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule with an option to split time between campus and elsewhere, in accordance with the university telecommuting policy, Background Check required for this position
