    Position description

    The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series, specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery.

     

    Qualified candidates must have completed an Orthopaedic Surgery Residency program, successfully completed an Orthopaedic Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship and must be board certified or board eligible in Orthopaedic Surgery, and be able to obtain a California medical license. Applicants are expected to have excellent clinical skills and be willing to actively participate in medical education.

     

    Faculty rank and step with UCLA will be determined and commensurate with the applicant’s background and accomplishments.

    The primary responsibilities of this position include:

    Developing a Shoulder and Elbow Reconstruction specialty practice at UCLA Health. Taking an active role in teaching activities of the department. This includes supervision of residents and medical students who rotate on the Orthopaedic services at the Medical Centers, as well as other such learners at UCLA teaching sites, and those who visit the program on elective rotations, participation in teaching conferences, didactic courses, grand rounds, clinical teaching during patient care sessions and other related functions. And contributing creatively to administrative, academic and research activities within the department, as well as participate in University public services. Evidence of creative or scholarly contributions is a requirement for advancement in the health sciences clinical series. This criteria can be satisfied by evidence of such contributions as publication of articles in recognized medical journal, development or administration of teaching programs, participation in the advancement of professional education, development or administration of a clinical service, participation in research activities, or creative participation in the advancement of a University professional practice program.

     

    Candidates should be fully engaged in providing state-of-the-art, patient-centered care. We seek an accomplished physician with an interest in developing an academic orthopaedic surgery practice focused on shoulder and elbow reconstruction surgery. The candidate must be comfortable covering general orthopaedic surgery trauma call. Candidates should be enthusiastic about engaging in educating medical students, residents, and fellows, serving the university community, and augmenting one of the nation’s leading departments.

    Qualifications

    Basic qualifications

    Qualified candidates must hold an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent. Candidates must also have completed an Orthopaedic Surgery Residency program, and successfully completed an Orthopaedic Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship.

    Additional qualifications

    Candidates should be board certified/eligible in Orthopaedic Surgery, and have or be eligible for a California medical license.

    Preferred qualifications

    Candidates who have demonstrated excellence in research, preferably with a track record of extramural funding, is preferred
