Job Summary
Perform work as assigned and assist others in shop maintenance, inspection, and repair of tools and equipment; perform fabrication work as necessary in the maintenance and repair of tools and equipment. Perform work in accordance with the Company's safety rules, operating regulations, and practices. Some work may be performed off-site, outdoors, on a call-out basis, and may involve overnight travel. NOTE: During the first 1,040 hours in classification, employee can work on de-energized equipment. After 1,040 hours in classification and with direct supervision or assistance of personnel in a higher classification, employee can work on voltages up to 300 volts.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
+ Under personnel in a higher classification, perform duties such as:
+ Assist in the repair of transformers, regulators, and other electrical equipment as assigned; clean distribution transformer windings, dry and insulate windings; take oil samples from transformers and various electrical equipment.
+ Assist in the repair of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, components, and devices such as control mechanisms, pumps, compressors, pistons, valves, etc.
+ Assemble and repair tools.
+ Prepare metal for welding; perform basic welding, soldering; assist welder in grinding, sanding, and cleaning when needed; assist in layouts and cuts for panels as directed.
+ Assist in panel wiring and perform basic wiring as directed and as shown on wiring drawings, prints, specifications, equipment instructions, and CAD drawings.
+ Clean equipment such as insulators, breaker and transformer tanks, etc., by use of mechanical cleaners or cleaning solutions; clean and mask surfaces in preparation for painting; paint and stencil equipment.
+ Assist in the testing of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment and systems; make test connections, and operate microprocessor-based test instruments as directed; select and use single element devices to read voltage and current; perform routine oil tests.
+ Operate computers to record, update and print equipment nameplates, and maintain database records.
+ Operate company vehicles, forklifts; with assistance, operate other mobile equipment such as jib cranes and overhead cranes; perform rigging as directed; assist in the set-up and operation of vacuum processing, oil processing, and oil filtering equipment as assigned.
+ Know the safe operating procedures of all the tools utilized; maintain shop equipment, tools and power tools in good condition; follow good housekeeping practices by keeping work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
+ Assist in the training of other employees.
+ Participate in job briefings.
+ Assist employees of all classifications.
+ Perform duties in accordance with Company's Safety rules and operating regulations and practices.
+ Perform similar or less skilled work.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education requirements are listed below:
High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
Completion of a two-year vocational degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Industrial Maintenance Technology or equivalent education may be desirable.
Work Experience requirement listed below:
None expected for this level of progression.
Required License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below: May be required to obtain a Commercial driver's license. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Must meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law.

Physical demand level is Heavy
1) Acceptable written and verbal communications skills.

4) Must be able to treat the Company's and customers' business as confidential.
5) Must successfully complete all job demonstrations, examinations or other training required within such time frame as determined by the Company.
6) Must be willing to work overtime as required by job responsibilities.
7) Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
8) Must be able to hear spoken words via telephone, cell phone or during individual or group meetings.
9) Must be physically capable of performing all the essential physical functions of the position. and have the ability to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties and responsibilities of the equipment repair facility.
10) May have to lift between 50-100lb objects; move and climb up to 28ft ladders; work at height from bucket trucks or man lifts; work in an enclosed/confined space.
11) Must be fitted annually for respirator / breathing apparatus. Eligible for Equipment Repair Mechanic "B," after successful completion of all job demonstrations and examinations associated with the Equipment Mechanic "C" to "B" progression within such time frame as determined by the Company, or vacate the position.

$30.14-31.82 USD
The Physical Demand Level for this job is: H – Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
