    About this Job

     

    Louisiana State University Shreveport seeks a self-motivated, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic professional to serve asAssistant Director of Financial Aid. This position plays a key leadership role in managing financial aid services for LSUS’s growing online student population in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The Assistant Director will oversee daily operations related to federal, state, and institutional aid programs, ensure regulatory compliance, enhance communication and engagement with students, and collaborate across departments to improve processes and promote student success. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative setting, demonstrate exceptional organizational and leadership skills, and be committed to providing outstanding service to students and families. The assistant director is a full-time, unclassified, exempt 12-month position. This summary is not intended to be a comprehensive or all-inclusive description of duties and responsibilities.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's degree

    + Three years of experience in financial aid, admissions, student affairs, higher education or comparable financial fields.

    + Acute attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Candidate should possess excellent oral and written communication skills and must be committed to providing excellent customer service. Possess strong organizational and leadership skills. Provide guidance to other professional and support staff personnel.

    + Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Master’s degree

    + Previous experience with a state agency employer.

    + Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with individuals at all levels.

    + Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

     

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Job Duties:

    + Coordinate all communications with online student population to increase engagement and resource awareness by maintaining financial aid website, creating emails, and social media campaigns.

    + Collaborate with the Financial Aid Coordinators and Counselors to ensure online students’ needs are identified and resolved.

    + Manage all aspects of the packaging private student loans.

    + Oversee monthly reconciliation of federal and state programs between federal agencies and the business office.

    + Assist with the Satisfactory Academic Progress annual review and end of semester check for students on probation and coordinates with other staff working on these functions.

    + Develop and maintain a strong culture of teamwork and collaboration within the Financial Aid Office and across campus with university offices and colleagues to meet students’ needs.

    + Evaluate business processes, make recommendations, and provide solutions to increase efficiency for the office.

    + Remain current on all federal, state and institutional financial aid programs.

    + Counsel with students and parents and assist with the completion of financial applications.

    + Participate in activities designed for student recruitment and retention.

    + Provide financial aid presentations to area high schools and organizations when requested.

    + Organize and conduct on-campus and off-campus workshops to inform students about financial aid and the application process.

    + Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

    Physical and Environmental Demands

     

    Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.
