    Position Summary

    We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer with deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), BigQuery, and PySpark to design, develop, and optimize large-scale data processing solutions. In this role, you will lead the architecture and implementation of data pipelines, ensuring high performance, scalability, and reliability for advanced analytics and machine learning workloads. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, data scientists, and product stakeholders, to deliver robust, cloud-native solutions that drive business insights and innovation.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Design and implement scalable data pipelines using PySpark and BigQuery on GCP.

    + Optimize query performance and cost efficiency for large datasets.

    + Lead the development of data models, ETL processes, and data quality frameworks.

    + Ensure compliance with security, governance, and best practices for cloud-based data solutions.

    + Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical strategy and architecture decisions.

    Required Qualifications

    + 7+ years of overall experience in large-scale software development with at least 2+ years of experience in a technical lead role

    + 4+ years of hands-on experience with GCP services like BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Storage

    + 4+ years of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD for data pipelines

    + 7+ years of experience developing within an agile development ​

    + Strong proficiency in GCP services (BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage).

    + Advanced experience with PySpark for distributed data processing.

    + Expertise in SQL and performance tuning for large-scale analytics.

    + Solid understanding of data engineering principles, including data modeling, ETL, and pipeline orchestration.

    + Familiarity with CI/CD, containerization (Docker), and orchestration tools (Airflow, Composer).

    + Design, develop, and optimize data pipelines on GCP using BigQuery, Dataflow, and Pub/Sub

    + Develop real-time and batch data ingestion frameworks using Kafka

    + Work with NoSQL databases (e.g., Firestore, Cassandra, MongoDB) to support high-throughput data applications

    + Ensure data integrity, governance, and security best practices in the data pipeline

    + Optimize performance, scalability, and cost efficiency of data solutions

    + Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and software engineers to deliver end-to-end data products

    + Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting for data pipelines and services

    + Participates in agile or other development methodologies, attends meetings, contributes to project planning, and helps drive the progress and success of digital projects

    + Explores new tools, frameworks, and techniques to improve digital solutions and drive innovation within the development team

    + Creates and maintains technical documentation, including system designs, architecture diagrams, code documentation, and other relevant documentation while sharing their knowledge and expertise with team members, ensuring effective knowledge transfer and collaboration

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Healthcare domain knowledge

    + Passion for innovation, with a customer-centric mindset focused on delivering exceptional user experiences

    + Experience working with distributed teams, working across multiple time zones and geographies

    + Ability to influence and inspire teams to align technical direction

    + Ability to create and execute innovation roadmaps

    + Ability to learn/work with emerging technologies, methodologies, and solutions in the Cloud/IT technology space

    Education knowledge

    + Bachelors of Science in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent work experience.

     

    Pay Range

    The typical pay range for this role is:

    $118,450.00 - $236,900.00

     

    This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
