    About the Indiana Geographical Information Office (IGIO):

    The Indiana Geographic Information Office (IGIO) has broad responsibilities that stretch from internal state government coordination to public data sharing through IndianaMap. We support dozens of state agencies and are responsible for the infrastructure, architecture, and functionality of the state’s GIS Enterprise. We also serve to support local GIS coordination and direct policy and standards for GIS data in Indiana. Numerous projects related to GIS, data coordination, data hosting, imagery acquisition and distribution, and data standards are coordinated through the IGIO for the benefit of public, private, and non-profit entities as well as the public.

    Role Overview:

    The Events and Communciatiions Coordinator leads the execution of several events including the office’s flagship annual GIS Day event, occurring in November of each year. This event attracts close to 400 attendees and 20 vendors. Additionally, the Coordinator provides administrative, marketing, and communications support to the Geographic Information Officer and the IGIO team, including purchasing and procurement, room reservations, scheduling, and helping ensure the office operates at a high level of efficiency. The IGIO is part of the Indiana Office of Technology (IOT). The position will interact with several teams at the IOT.

     

    Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is not required.

    Salary:

    This position starts at an annual salary of $70,122 and may be commensurate with education and job experience.

    A Day in the Life:

    Marketing & Communication Support:

    + Develop and execute marketing strategies for IGIO-hosted events, including the flagship GIS Day, to attract attendees, vendors, and partners.

    + Execute marketing strategies for IGIO-hosted events, including the flagship GIS Day, to attract attendees, vendors, and partners.

    + Draft and edit communications such as event announcements, blog and social media updates.

    + Maintain the IGIO’s web presence and digital assets, ensuring content is current, accessible, and aligned with the office’s goals.

    + Support the creation of presentations, reports, and visual material for public and stakeholder engagement.

    Administrative Support:

    + Provide direct administrative assistance to the Geographic Information Officer and the IGIO Team, including calendar management, meeting coordination, and correspondence.

    + Support the IGIO team with purchasing, procurement, and invoice processing in alignment with IOT policies.

    + Coordinate room reservations, travel arrangements, and scheduling for internal and external meetings.

    + Maintain organized records and documentation to support operational efficiency and compliance.

    Cross-Team Collaboration:

    + Serve as a liaison between IGIO and other IOT teams to facilitate communication, resource sharing, and project alignment.

    + Participate in cross-functional initiatives and contribute to a collaborative, high-performance work culture.

    This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours that may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

    + Proficiency in using office software such as word processing, spreadsheets, and more, preferably using the Microsoft Office suite of tools and programs.

    + Familiarity with scheduling and calendar management tools.

    + Willing and able to learn content management and communication tools.

    + Ability to identify and escalate issues appropriately.

    Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

    This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
