Atlanta Technical College (ATC) is seeking highly qualified applicants for its Full-Time Counselor position in the Dual Achievement Program of the Academic and Student Affairs division. This position is located at Atlanta Technical Colleges’ South Campus, located just south of Atlanta in Forest Park, Ga.
Under general supervision of the Executive Director for Dual Achievement Program (DAP), the Full-Time Counselor will provide direction for students’ academic, social, and emotional well-being. This position will also be responsible for developing and providing an affective, comprehensive guidance and counseling program to serve the needs of all students; be responsible for test administration and supervision, (depending on school level); provide orientation programs to acquaint students with new development and facilitate their school adjustment process and provide direct support service to students.
Job duties include, but may not be limited to, the following:
• Assist in monitoring the activities of personnel to ensure compliance with TCSG policy manual and departmental procedures.
• Utilize responsive counseling.
• Initiate individual and group sessions for students’ personal, social, and academic concerns.
• Consult with parents and staff to appraise student needs and interests and discuss appropriate recommendations for educational options.
• Plan and coordinate classroom group and guidance sessions to meet the identified guidance and counseling competencies in areas of academic achievement, career and educational development and personal and social development.
• Provide individual and small group responsive counseling services with identified students for academic or motivational issues.
• Maintain confidentiality of student records and official business unless legally required to disclose.
• Communicate, collaborate, and provide consultation with faculty and staff to increase student success.
• Collect, organize, and analyze information about individuals through records, tests, interviews, and professional sources to appraise their interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality characteristics for career and educational planning.
• Compile and study occupational, educational, educational, and economic information to aid students in making and carrying out career and educational objectives.
•M aintain knowledge of assigned program area and give updates to management on services, operations, and projects.
• Develop and maintain a working relationship with internal and external contacts to promote the college and TCSG.
•C omplete all assigned trainings in a timely manner.
•P erforms other responsibility as assigned.
Competencies:
• Knowledge of admissions requirements, processes, and procedures.
• Knowledge of programs of study and their educational and career requirements.
• Knowledge of the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Applied Technology Act of 1998, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and Title IX of the Education Act of 1972.
• Knowledge and adherence of privacy practices including HIPAA and FERPA.
• Skill in IEP Development.
• Skill in program planning and implementation.
• Skill in computer and job-related software programs.
• Decision making and problem-solving skills.
• Oral and written communication skills.
•A bility to work with diverse student populations.
• Skill in interpersonal relations and dealing with the public.
• Ability to organize and multitask.
Minimum Requirements:
Must possess and demonstrate a Bachelor’s degree in a related field AND two (2) years of related work experience.
**Please Note: Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year year basis.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Preference may be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess and demonstrate the following:
+ E arned a degree in counseling, social work, or related field from an academic institution recognized by the United States Department of Education.
+ Documented work experience as a K-12 educator.
+ Must provide transcripts of covered degrees.
