Roles and Responsibilities: + Interviewing and obtaining statements or affidavits from claimants, witnesses and other persons involved; re-interviewing witnesses prior to trial; taking photographs of accident scenes. + Arranging property damage appraisals and medical exams as necessary. + Obtaining information from police records, hospital records, motor vehicle bureaus and other public agencies. + Carrying out negotiations in adjusting of claims and entering of settlements with attorneys. + Obtaining information in collection cases and taking steps to collect damages. + Obtaining and maintaining video of accident scenes and other electronic data. + Checking court calendars; maintaining a calendar of upcoming events; maintaining a diary system. + Maintaining both paper and electronic claim files. + Attending trials as liaison between defense counsel and the claim department; possibly testifying in relation to prior statements of witnesses, photographs, and other claim investigation undertaken. + Preparing cover letters, releases, and other documents. + Other duties, as required, to successfully handle all assigned claims from first report to conclusion. Education, Experience, and Qualifications: + Must be a graduate of a four-year college/university and have a minimum of two years experience in general liability claim investigation, adjusting and negotiating. + Must possess a valid driver’s license in good standing and be able to travel independently throughout the State of New Jersey. Knowledge & Skills + Must have demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills. + Must have demonstrated interpersonal skills. + Must have demonstrated ability to plan and organize efficiently. + Must demonstrate ability to negotiate settlement of claims in adversarial setting. + Must be able to prepare accurate reports. + Must demonstrate aptitude for evaluating liability and exposure. + Must be able to work independently within the guidelines of Risk Management procedures and the Union contract. + Must be willing and able to work in the field in all kinds of weather conditions and beyond normal work hours. + Must have in his/her possession a cellphone, supplied by the company, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, except for vacation time. + Ability to enter data and information into the claims database using a laptop computer.
