Salary Range: $50,000 to $63,000
The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
JOB SUMMARY
A member of St. Thomas’ Marketing, Insights & Communications (MIC) team, the Marketing Specialist develops marketing materials (including, but not limited to: web page content, emails, social media posts, written feature stories, print collateral, digital ads, video scripts) that elevate the university’s visibility, with a strong focus on promoting university-wide initiatives and supporting enrollment (with a special emphasis on graduate enrollment) objectives. This role will primarily support St. Thomas’ School of Engineering (SOE), as well as certain institutional projects.
Reporting to a Marketing and Communications Director, this role develops and executes content across SOE and institutional platforms, including websites, emails, social media, printed collateral, videos and the St. Thomas Newsroom. This content is designed to engage external audiences, including prospective students, their families and the broader community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Website Content and Optimization
+ In partnership with the SOE Website Manager and MIC website team, develop content for the SOE website, including academic program pages and college-wide content that is accurate, easy to navigate and reflects the advantages and experiences of the school.
+ Write and refresh content for new and existing academic programs (graduate and undergraduate), alumni features and event-specific materials.
+ In collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Director, support institutional-wide content creation and updates. This will include content planning, creation and updates for the St. Thomas website homepage and top navigation sections (e.g., About, Academics, etc.), including the ability to structure site updates within the content management system (CMS) using existing modules and leveraging best practices.
+ Track and report on basic engagement metrics.
Program and Campaign Content and Development
+ In collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Director, develop content for SOE programs, including program materials, communications and event content (example: brochure copy, video social post, etc.).
+ Coordinate the announcements of academic program changes and new offerings.
+ Support SOE graduate campaigns and institutional visibility campaigns with content development, storytelling, landing page development, etc.
Storytelling and Newsroom Contributions
+ Collaborate with SOE faculty and staff and MIC colleagues to identify, share and prioritize story ideas and new content opportunities.
+ Develop written content (generally between 200-800 words, depending on content type) for the St. Thomas Newsroom highlighting students, alumni, and faculty from SOE and for university-wide initiatives.
+ Partner with MIC PR and Communications team to facilitate thought leadership content (example: identifying faculty experts to contribute to news cycle or contribute written pieces, etc.)
Social Media and Email Support and Execution
+ Partner with the SOE Website Manager to develop and share content for SOE social media channels to drive enrollment and raise awareness.
+ In partnership with MIC colleagues, develop content for institutional social channels to support visibility and university-wide initiatives.
+ Build and send mass email messages in Salesforce Marketing Cloud using graphics, personalization and dynamic content. While Marketing Cloud experience is helpful; training can be provided as needed.
+ Ensure emails are compliant with law, in line with user preferences and follow industry best practices. Analyze email performance metrics and suggest improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English, or a related field
+ A minimum of one year of professional level experience with marketing, communications, content creation, and user-generated content management
+ Familiarity with email platforms and social media management is helpful; training will be provided.
An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may be substituted.
