As a Engineering Technology Specialist in the ePowertrain Systems team, you will be joining an innovative team on the cutting edge of electrification. The ePowertrain Systems team is part of the Electrification & Energy Solutions Division and is a full electric powertrain solution partner for prime product groups whose products are sold into the Construction industries, Resource Industries, and Energy & Transportation industry segments.
This role will be responsible for supporting test execution across multiple charger or power conversion NPI programs in Caterpillar’s Electrification Product Innovation Center (EPIC). This role will help coordinate test requests from charger or power conversion engineers. This role may create test plans, utilizing the input collected from the charger and power conversion engineers. When needed, this role may also be responsible for the build and/or commissioning of a new test rig.
The Engineering Technology Specialist role may include the following:
+ Accountable for the SAFETY of themselves and others in or around their work area.
+ Coordination and oversight of device under test builds within Caterpillar facilities or at local facilities outside of Caterpillar. In situations when we are working with suppliers outside of Caterpillar, this person will be the liaison between Caterpillar and that supplier as it relates to the specific testing that we are requesting.
+ Performing tests targeted at verifying the performance, durability, safety, and/or communication and controls of the charger or power conversion system.
+ Working with Caterpillar test execution facilities to ensure that tests requirements are defined and communicated and ensure that those facilities are meeting those requirements.
+ Identify test facility needs, request necessary hardware and/or data acquisition system. Make capital requests and manage those requests, as needed, to support the necessary testing.
Position involves working in a team environment on challenging New Technology Introduction (NTI) and New Product Introduction (NPI) programs that involve chargers or power conversion systems, supporting a team of charger or power conversion engineers and NPI leads.
What you have:
**Degree Requirement:** Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s in a science-related discipline preferred
Technical Excellence:
Previous validation/test execution experience with complex hardware systems or components (test experience with software, controls, or displays is not sufficient for this role). Demonstrated understanding of mechanical & electrical systems
Level Extensive Experience:
• Experience providing instrumentation and data acquisition support for machine or drivetrain testing (both in a lab and in the field)
• Experience with electric drive systems or components preferred
• Experience with lab component or machine test/validation required
• Experience documenting issues discovered during testing required
• Engages appropriate subject matter experts to effectively resolve technical issues.
• Assumes accountability for personal job performance and holds others responsible for theirs.
**Accuracy and Attention to Detail:** Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.

**Product Testing:** Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.

• Coordinates execution of test plans, including resources, strategy, schedules, processes and tools.
• Collaborates with design team to ensure testing considerations are incorporated into system design.
• Recommends tools and techniques for automating, simplifying and enhancing product testing.
• Compares and contrasts alternative testing methodologies and tools.
• Matches testing methodology and tools to product being tested; develops test scenarios.

**Troubleshooting Technical Problems:** Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a research and development environment.

• Evaluates business impact of failure and the criticality and timing of needed resolution.
• Monitors performance and history; addresses excessive maintenance or repair needs.
• Applies specific techniques for isolating a problem and defining resolution approach.

Summary Pay Range:
$126,000.00 - $189,000.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
