The Biology Department at Farmingdale State College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor fluent in emerging areas of the field such as bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, and the intersections of coding, data science, and STEM research. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory majors-level biology lecture and laboratory as well as upper division Biology courses related to these research specialties. In addition, the position will require student advisement, curriculum review and development, and service on departmental and college-wide committees. The successful candidate is required to engage in research leading to the publication of peer-reviewed articles and is expected to submit external grant applications. As part of the department's commitment to undergraduate research, advanced undergraduate students are often involved in the research activities as interns mentored by the faculty member.
All faculty members at Farmingdale State College have three workload components: teaching, research and scholarly activity, and service. Candidates should have a research agenda that complements their area of academic specialty resulting in peer-reviewed publications, which are necessary for promotion and tenure at Farmingdale State College. We are also interested in candidates with a history of, or interest in, pursuing external funding for their research. The successful candidate will demonstrate an interest and high level of competence in teaching. The service component of the workload includes student advising and participation on committees.

Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
+ PhD from an accredited institution in a field related to biology. ABD candidates will be considered, provided the doctorate is conferred by the time of appointment.
+ Ability to relate to and work with students in various aspects of their academic pursuits.
+ Excellent written and oral communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Experience teaching Biology courses at the undergraduate level.
+ Experience teaching Bioinformatics courses at the undergraduate level.
+ Postdoctoral training and/or an ongoing research program.
+ Peer-reviewed publications.
+ Grant writing experience.
+ Research within the field of biology that is appropriate for undergraduate students and can be supported and enhanced by existing research in the Biology Department at Farmingdale.
Additional Information:
This is a 10-month UUP faculty position.
+ For the first 10 working days, beginning Thursday, October 23, 2025, and ending Saturday, November 1, 2025, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.
+ CLOSING DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS: Friday, November 21, 2025
+ SALARY: $75,000 + $4,000 in downstate location pay = $79,000 Total Compensation. Salary may increase commensurate with qualifications and experience.
+ ANTICIPATED START DATE: Fall 2026
