• Assistant Professor - Computer Security

    Farmingdale State College (Farmingdale, NY)


     

    The Department of Computer Security at Farmingdale State College (SUNY) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in the Fall of 2026.

     

    The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate courses in Computer Security and Security Systems, including computer security, digital forensics, cryptography, operating systems security, biometrics, ethical hacking, artificial intelligence in cybersecurity, and other related courses. Other responsibilities include student advisement and curriculum development. Candidates must engage in grant development work and research leading to publications in refereed academic journals.

     

    All faculty members at Farmingdale State College have three workload components: teaching, research and scholarly activity, and service. Candidates should have a research agenda that complements their area of academic specialty resulting in peer-reviewed publications, which are necessary for promotion and tenure at Farmingdale State College. We are also interested in candidates with a history of, or interest in, pursuing external funding for their research. The successful candidate will demonstrate an interest and high level of competence in teaching. The service component of the workload includes student advising and participation on committees.

    Job Requirements:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Doctoral degree in Computer Security, Computer Science or a closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered, provided the doctorate is conferred by the time of appointment.

    + Excellent communication, interpersonal skills.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Expertise or interest in the areas of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, cloud security, and/or vulnerability analysis.

    + Evidence of prior teaching experience and scholarly publications.

    Additional Information:

    This is a 10-month UUP faculty position.

     

    + For the first 10 working days, beginning Thursday, October 23, 2025, and ending Saturday, November 1, 2025, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.

    + CLOSING DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS: Open Until Filled; applications will be reviewed as they are received.

    + SALARY: $85,000 + $4,000 in downstate location pay = $89,000 Compensation. Salary may increase commensurate with qualifications and experience.

    + ANTICIPATED START DATE: Fall 2026
