Global Merchant Network Services (GMNS) has relationships with millions of merchant businesses, in more than 25 countries, and delivers over $1.5T in spend. The people, processes, and technology that support this vital function are evolving to improve the merchant experience and economics. The Global Strategy & Performance Operations (GSOP) team’s mission is to deliver a best-in-class premium merchant experience that will get merchants to not only accept American Express, but openly welcome and recommend us to their customers.
The Global Policy & Standards team within GSOP develops the rules, specifications, and data quality programs that govern American Express products and capabilities across Network Participants, Merchants, and Third-party Acquiring Partners. The GPS Third-Party Policy team is responsible for the development, publication, and communication of operating rules for acquiring programs designed to expand American Express Card acceptance through third-party partnerships.
The Sr. Manager role is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with demonstrated experience and knowledge in the payments industry, particularly of acquiring models and participants in the U.S. payments ecosystem, including those involved in the acquisition, set-up, and onboarding of merchants accepting point-of-sale PIN debit and ecommerce transactions. The successful candidate will leverage subject matter expertise and experience in working with processors, debit networks, and acquirers to develop and apply rules, requirements, and controls for programs that will enable American Express to expand its presence in the evolving payments landscape.
Responsibilities include:
+ Apply payment industry knowledge and expertise to the design and development of rules, requirements, and controls for programs that will enable American Express to expand acquisition efforts in the evolving payments and U.S. debit landscapes.
+ Liaise with internal business, operations, technical enablement, and capabilities teams to understand, assess, and ensure the operational feasibility of proposed policy and requirements.
+ Liaise with internal first and second line of defense, risk, compliance, oversight, and legal teams to ensure proposed acquiring program rules are consistent with a strong control environment.
+ Lead and/or participate in the bi-annual publication process, to include drafting, discussing, and refining policy language and securing stakeholder alignment and approval prior to publication.
+ Serves as subject matter expert; educates and trains internal teams and external partners; develops processes; understands the rules of debit acquiring and how to apply them.

Qualifications:
+ Minimum 3 years’ experience in the payments industry with demonstrated knowledge of the roles processors, US Debit networks, and acquirers play in merchant acquiring and onboarding.
+ Demonstrated analytical and fact-based problem-solving skills; ability to distill complex scenarios, process map, and apply knowledge to arrive at tactical recommendations and workable solutions.
+ Strong collaboration and influence management skills; experience working cross-functionally within a complex matrixed organization; able to balance business objectives with a robust control environment.
+ Control management/operational risk background a plus.
+ Strong project management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and participate in a variety of complex projects with varying outcomes without losing attention to detail.
+ Excellent writing and communication skills. Able to simplify and articulate complex requirements and adapt the message for varying audiences.Strong PowerPoint skills.
+ Tenacious and resilient self-starter, able to work independently with moderate guidance; comfortable with ambiguity and committed to meeting deadlines.
Qualifications
Salary Range: $103,750.00 to $174,750.00 annually bonus benefits
