    The School of Education and Human Development at the University of Virginia seeks a talented educator for the position of Assistant Professor of Education, General Faculty, in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education in Early Childhood Education. This is a 9-month, salaried, tenure ineligible academic general faculty position on the teaching track.

     

    The successful candidate will be an Early Childhood generalist with relevant knowledge and experience to be able to teach and/or oversee instruction in areas such as early childhood development, early mathematics and language development and teaching, the contexts of education, and supporting positive behavior. The successful candidate is expected to have a track record (commensurate with experience) of teaching effectively at the early childhood and university levels. They will be expected to teach and oversee undergraduate and graduate courses in early childhood education, both online and in person, and advise undergraduate students. The successful candidate will also support students, mentor teachers, and clinical coaches with clinical placements. In addition, the successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues, both within and outside the School of Education and Human Development, as well as with community partners such as community colleges and early childhood centers.

    Required Qualifications and Experience:

    + A PhD or EdD in early childhood education, educational psychology, or a related field prior to the start date of the position

    + A demonstrated record of effective teaching at the early childhood and university levels

    + Record of successful advising of undergraduate or graduate students

    Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

    + Experience working with students from a range of backgrounds

    + Experience working with teacher candidates (as a mentor or university supervisor) in their clinical placements

    + Experience with developing collaborations among community partners, early childhood educators, and schools

    + Experience working in teacher education and/or PreK-12 classroom contexts

    + Experience with online teaching
