Description

Our client is looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to oversee the financial operations of their organization in the New Providence, New Jersey area. This role involves managing accounting processes, financial reporting, and compliance, while also driving efficiency and accuracy in financial systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting, exceptional leadership skills, and a proactive approach to addressing financial risks and opportunities.

Responsibilities:

• Manage daily accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and the general ledger.

• Supervise a team of accounting staff, including construction administrators, a bookkeeper, and a payroll manager.

• Ensure client billings are distributed accurately and on time, coordinating reviews with architects and owners' representatives.

• Maintain job cost accounting systems to monitor project budgets, variances, and profitability.

• Prepare financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, including income statement reconciliations and balance sheet reviews.

• Oversee cash management activities, such as bank reconciliations and cash flow monitoring.

• Coordinate with external accounting firms for tax reporting and audits.

• Review and manage insurance policies to ensure adequate coverage and compliance.

• Lead the annual budgeting process, collaborating with project managers and leadership to develop accurate forecasts.

• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and support organizational growth.

Requirements • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is required.

• A minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with a focus on the construction industry.

• In-depth knowledge of US GAAP and construction accounting principles, including work-in-progress (WIP) and job cost tracking.

• Proficiency in accounting software such as Sage 300, Viewpoint Vista, Procore, and QuickBooks.

• Strong leadership and team management abilities, including hiring, training, and mentoring staff.

• Experience in preparing financial statements and managing compliance with tax and insurance regulations.

• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to forecast cash flows and manage budgets effectively.

• Familiarity with risk assessment and implementation of internal controls to safeguard company assets.
