The Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) Supervisor supports the AMHS CDI program by overseeing the daily operations of Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialists (CDIS) and serving as a liaison between the CDI team, medical providers, coding professionals, and other key departments. This role is essential in ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of clinical documentation to support appropriate coding, reimbursement, and quality reporting.
The CDI Supervisor collaborates closely with the CDI Manager and Director to maintain standardized practices across all campuses and to support key program initiatives, including Epic optimization, provider education, and CDI performance reporting. The Supervisor plays a vital role in staff development by assisting with training, monitoring productivity, ensuring quality assurance, and facilitating the effective use of clinical documentation software and tools.
Key responsibilities include conducting bi-monthly 1:1 meeting with each CDIS team member, monitoring and reporting monthly productivity metrics to the CDI Manager, managing staff timekeeping through Kronos, and assisting in the completion of annual evaluations across four campuses. The CDI Supervisor also analyzes and reports performance data, escalates issues as needed, and works collaboratively with system-level departments to resolve cross-functional challenges.
This leadership role is integral to the success of the CDI program, requiring strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills to foster a high-performing team and drive continuous improvement across all facets of clinical documentation integrity.
Education:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or health related degree is required
+ MD, DO or foreign educated medical graduate with advanced clinical practice experience
+ NYS RN license Preferred
Licensure, Certification & Registration:
+ Active CDI Certification such as CDIP or CCDS preferred or obtainable within 2 years
+ Coding certification such as CCS, CPC, preferred
+ RN License, preferred
Experience:
+ Minimum of 5 years of adult acute care clinical experience required
+ At least 2 years of CDI experience required
+ Prior supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership (e.g., preceptor, team lead, trainer) preferred
+ Experience mentoring or training staff and providing feedback to clinicians and colleagues
+ Experience working collaboratively with Revenue Cycle, Case Management, or HIM teams
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
+ Strong knowledge of complex disease processes and ICD-10 coding conventions
+ Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
+ Ability to provide constructive feedback and education to CDI team members and providers
+ Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
+ Capable of analyzing data and identifying trends for performance improvement
+ Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with EMR systems (Epic preferred)
+ Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
