Job Description

Location:

In-office/non-remote in Maryville, TN.

Scope:

The Accounting Manager directs a team of accountants and specialists. A leader within the Corporate Accounting organization, this role manages the monthly close and payroll processes and ensures the accuracy and timeliness of accounting data within a defined scope of responsibility. This position reports to the Corporate Controller.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

+ Manage the financial close process through direct oversight of a team of accountants and collaboration with other departments

+ Prepare and review journal entries and account reconciliations to ensure results of operations and financial position are accurately stated in accordance with US GAAP

+ Direct the accurate and timely processing of payroll

+ Oversee the administration and accounting for employee stock compensation and purchase programs

+ Analyze accounting data to provide meaningful and decision-useful insights within a defined scope of responsibility

+ Exercise diligent staff development practices to develop and maintain a high-performing team of accountants and specialists

+ Maintain, and improve as needed, effective and efficient accounting processes and documentation standards in support of accurate and timely accounting data and effective internal controls

+ Support quarterly reviews and year-end audits, as needed

+ Assist with footnote preparation for quarterly 10-Q and annual 10-K SEC filings, as needed

+ Assist with annual budgeting and periodic forecasting within a defined scope of responsibility

+ Perform special projects as assigned

Education and Experience:

+ Bachelor's degree in accounting required

+ CPA and/or Master’s degree in accounting or finance preferred

+ At least three years of management experience

+ Public accounting experience a plus

+ SAP experience a plus

+ Public company experience a plus

Physical Demands:

+ Continuous: sitting position, prolong use of computer and possible eye strain.

+ Occasional: walking, standing, bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching

+ Occasional lift: 0 to 30 pounds

Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment:

Within the Smith & Wesson manufacturing facility, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting. Work environment is similar to most manufacturing operations. May be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting, continuous exposure to hot temperatures, may be humid, odors, dust, continuous exposure to mechanical hazards, and occasional exposure to chemical hazards.

The following Personal Protective Equipment is required:

+ Safety glasses with side shields and hearing protection required when on manufacturing floor

+ The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department, this includes safety eyewear, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
