    Job Summary

    The University of Michigan seeks a creative, innovative, and thoughtful person to join our Equity, Civil Rights and Title IX Office (ECRT). Your primary responsibilities are to review and assess allegations of discrimination and harassment based on protected classes, including claims which involve Title VI. You may also resolve matters where appropriate, including holding educational conversations with individuals and/or units on ECRT matters. You will report to the Title VI Coordinator.

     

    Regular in-person presence is required and this position is based onsite at our office in Ann Arbor, Michigan. On occasion, you may need to work outside of traditional working hours, including evenings and weekends.

    Responsibilities*

    Investigation & Report Resolutions - 70%

    + Review complaints of civil rights discrimination and harassment including protected class issues, primarily on issues involving students.

    + Assist in providing supportive measures to individuals involved in matters involving discrimination and/or harassment.

    + Conduct civil rights investigations, including interviews, gathering evidence, reviewing and analyzing information, and drafting clear and concise analyses and reports.

    + Conduct reviews and informational conversations to resolve matters as appropriate.

    + Effectively communicate and collaborate with campus partners, parties, and others.

    + Provide support in the implementation of university policies and procedures related to civil rights compliance.

    Education & Training Education and Training -20%

    + Provide training and education on campus and at Michigan Medicine on protected class issues, including reporting and resource options.

    Administrative and Other Duties - 10%

    + Organization, management and tracking of civil rights complaints to ensure well-documented reporting and resolution processes.

    Performs related duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications*

    + Juris Doctor or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    + 2+ years work experience investigating, responding to, and analyzing all forms of harassment and discrimination.

    + Knowledge of and experience working with all relevant federal and state civil rights laws, regulations, and guidance.

    + Experience providing consultation, educational programming, and identifying resources to promote a welcoming, supportive, inclusive environment free from discrimination and harassment.

    + Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communications skills showing sensitivity to tone, audience and organizational issues.

    + Competence using Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Adobe, Dropbox, and Case Management Systems.

    Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.
