    Job Summary

    The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Department of Psychology at the University of Michigan invite applications for a Lecturer I position at 33.33% effort for the Winter 2026 term. This appointment is scheduled to begin on 1/1/2026 and end on 4/30/2026.

    Responsibilities*

    Duties of this Lecturer I position include teaching in person Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10am-11:30am during the Winter 2026 term, developing course materials, evaluating and grading students, and holding regularly scheduled office hours. A typical full-time (100% effort) load for a Lecturer I in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is three courses per semester. Full-time and part-time positions are available.

     

    Course Title(s): Psych 430/477 Psychedelic Science and Medicine

    Course Objectives:

    This seminar will provide an overview of psychedelic science and medicine, covering the history, phenomenology, action across multiple scales (including acute and lasting changes to behavior and brain physiology), cutting-edge medical applications, and the impact on society of psychedelic drugs. The focus will be on serotonergic psychedelics (such as psilocybin, LSD, and DMT), but psychedelics of other classes (including ketamine, ibogaine, and salvinorin A) will also be covered. Besides the prerequisite, no topic-specific knowledge is needed, as necessary background information will be provided to understand all topics in this course.

    Required Qualifications*

    The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a closely related field. The candidate must have demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching in the United States.

     

    The selection criteria used for this search is based on how the applicant's education and experience meets the required minimum qualifications for the position. Excellence in teaching and instruction will be the principal criteria used to select the successful candidate.

    Desired Qualifications*

    Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching on the topic of psychedelic medicine or similar topics.

    This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
