PURPOSE
The Assistant Diving Safety Officer, under the direction of the Diving Safety Officer, assists in the conduction, instruction, and training of the diving program.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Administrative: 50%
+ Maintain compliance with university and federal standards and regulations.
+ Provides and assists with specialized instruction and training of diving personnel.
+ Assists with general oversight of the health and safety aspects of diving programs in accordance with university and training agency policies and accepted safe diving practices.
+ Assists with annual audits of diving programs records pertaining to safety and instructional standards.
+ Assists with the maintenance of records and documents associated with diving activities, including the preparation and submission of annual reports of diving activities, as required by conditions of organizational membership.
+ May act as a liaison between the university diving program and the Board.
+ Assists with budget and dive program expenditures in accordance with university and State policies.
Program Management – Training: 25%
+ Conducts the dive program, including training and certification, approval of dive plans, maintenance of dive records, ensuring compliance with accepted dive operation standards, and relevant regulations.
+ Assists with diving instruction and evaluation of training programs and classes that incorporate diving as a component.
+ Reviews and develop training standards to comply with federal training requirements.
+ Maintains dive program logs and records as needed.
Equipment Management: 25%
+ Maintains inventory of required parts and equipment for diving program.
+ Institutes and maintains the preventative maintenance program of diving related equipment.
+ Assists with evaluations and operations of equipment and equipment maintenance programs.
+ Assists with tests and certify sources of breathing gases, annually inspect cylinders and regulators, and provide oversight of diving equipment inventories.
+ Fill cylinders with breathing gas as needed.
+ Conduct inventory of diving and support equipment and manages service and inventory records of dive gear.
+ Safely operates university vehicles/machinery
QUALIFICATIONS
+ Bachelor’s degree in applicable field.
+ Two (2) years of experience in certified diving or related experience.
+ Additional education may be considered as a substitution for the minimum requirements.
+ Master’s degree in applicable field.
+ Open Water Scuba Instructor certification from an internally recognized training agency (i.e. NAUI/PADI/SSI/SDI/GUE, etc.).
+ Experience as a certified diver should include low visibility environments, open ocean diving, large and small boat diving, and underwater data collection.
+ Maintain valid driver's license.
+ Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
+ Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.
+ Knowledge of diving safety processes and procedures.
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills.
+ Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Bachelor's degree or higher in Marine Science or STEM related field.
+ Scientific Diver certification.
+ DAN instructor certification.
+ Familiarity with Commercial Diving.
+ Experience working in a university environment.
+ Experience supervising undergraduate students.
+ Equipment technician certifications (various, i.e. regulator service, cylinder inspection, etc.).
SALARY: Up to $3,666.67 Monthly ($44,000.04 Annual, Approximately)
