Position Overview

The Engineering Group Manager – Paint Engineering leads a team of engineers responsible for the end-to-end execution of manufacturing engineering projects. This includes process development, equipment design, and successful launch at assembly sites. The role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams—strategic suppliers, operations, purchasing, and supply chain—to ensure timely, cost-effective, and high-quality project delivery.

This position plays a key role in shaping the future of GM’s paint manufacturing processes and demands a high level of independent decision-making and leadership during project installation and startup phases.

Key Responsibilities

+ Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers through coaching, training, and performance management.

+ Define and manage project scope, budgets, timelines, and investment requirements.

+ Monitor project milestones, proactively resolve issues, and mitigate risks.

+ Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety regulations, and manufacturing best practices (Bill of Process, Bill of Equipment).

+ Collaborate across departments to ensure seamless execution and successful product launches.

+ Champion continuous improvement initiatives across Manufacturing Engineering, Strategic Suppliers, and Product Engineering.

+ Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

+ Manage project budgets and forecasts, driving cost reduction strategies.

+ Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in manufacturing engineering.

Required Qualifications

+ Minimum 7 years of experience in manufacturing with demonstrated expertise in engineering principles and practices.

+ At least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role with proven ability to manage teams and deliver results.

+ Strong background in project execution within manufacturing environments, including equipment installation and construction.

+ Proficiency in processing equipment, throughput analysis, and manufacturing process design.

+ Deep understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.

+ Solid knowledge of safety standards and regulatory compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience.

+ Experience in high-volume manufacturing environments.

+ Familiarity with robotics and automation technologies.

+ Experience in automotive paint shops and paint process engineering.
