Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible primarily for administering Contractor Safety, Hazardous Building Materials, Cranes & Hoists, Trenching & Excavation, Asbestos Management, Warehouse & Loading Docks, Theater Safety, and Fall Protection programs. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, procedure development, equipment inspections, equipment inventorying, qualified personnel inventory, meter calibration, risk assessments, data collection, safety management plans, jobsite safety assessments, and special projects. Inspect all assigned campus buildings, equipment, and environments to detect existing and potential safety and health hazards and compliance issues. Respond to any area of the campus to assess and investigate hazardous conditions or other safety and health concerns. Conduct or participate in accident or special investigations. Write reports detailing all findings, deficiencies, and recommended corrective actions. Maintain contact and follow up with appropriate personnel until resolution. Monitor and evaluate federal, state, local, and university policies on a continual basis for compliance-related activities. May be required to respond to incidents after hours.
Responsible for offering and delivering safety compliance training to assigned departments and campus community. Instructional programs include, but are not limited to, Contractor Safety, Hazardous Building Materials, Cranes & Hoists, Trenching & Excavations, Asbestos Management, Warehouse & Loading Docks, Theater Safety, and Fall Protection programs. Coordinate safety educational events to promote an attitude and atmosphere of safety awareness. Develop, update, and distribute safety publications in both electronic and published formats
Responsible for determining the level of university compliance with Contractor Safety core program elements. Serve in a supportive role for administering Hazardous Building Materials, Cranes & Hoists, Trenching & Excavations, Asbestos Management, Warehouse & Loading Docks, Theater Safety, and Fall Protection programs. Conduct self-audits of written programs, trainings, assessments, investigations, and inspections to ensure documents are accurate, closed within a timely manner, and filed appropriately.
Assure compliance with local, state, federal, and industrial regulations within assigned program area(s). Ability to consult with various specialty agencies ( DOI , EPA , OSHA , etc) for guidance on program structure, components, and effectiveness. Ability to provide technical support and consultation services to assigned units to determine EHS needs.
Responsible for applying basic environmental, health, and safety ( EHS ) knowledge to assist assigned departments with EHS program enrollment, regulatory compliance implementation, hazard control techniques, development of safety management plans, loss prevention techniques, and regulatory compliance. Responsible for interpreting local, state, federal, and University requirements and providing technical support to the campus community. Responsible for building relationships and learning departmental operations to maximize EHS program implementation
Minimum Experience / Education:
+ Bachelor’s degree in a physical science, biological science, environmental science/engineering, occupational safety, industrial technology or related discipline; or
+ Equivalent combination of training and experience.
+ All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
+ Knowledge of local, state, and federal safety codes, regulations, and guidelines, such as OSHA , CFR , TSCA , ASHRAE , etc.
+ Experience conducting equipment inspections, jobsite safety assessments, incident investigations, risk assessments, and program audits.
+ Knowledge and experience in developing, updating, and implementing training programs.
+ Knowledge of construction/renovation plan reviews and permit approvals.
+ Demonstrates knowledge, understanding, and application of Contractor Safety, Hazardous Building Materials, Cranes & Hoists, Trenching & Excavations, Asbestos Management, Warehouse & Loading Docks, Theater Safety, and Fall Protection programs.
