Job Description:
The role of a SUBSAFE Technical Writer/Planner involves researching, interpreting, and applying technical manuals and specifications to develop comprehensive technical instructions, QA Work Books, Work Packages, Test and Inspection Plans, and Technical Work Documents (TWDs) for government and commercial contracts. This position requires a focus on Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical work, ensuring accuracy and compliance with technical specifications and customer requirements.
Responsibilities:
+ Provide daily technical support to the management team.
+ Assist in developing written procedures for Safety, Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical Trades work.
+ Develop safety, quality control, and inspection procedures for inclusion in test and inspection plans.
+ Define test standards and specify test equipment requirements.
+ Collaborate with customer QA/Safety representatives to establish inspection and acceptance criteria.
+ Review quality/safety documentation for accuracy and completeness.
+ Review and approve Technical Work Documents and Condition Reports for compliance with NAVSEA requirements.
+ Recommend and implement changes to Technical Work Documents to enhance clarity and success.
+ Review and resolve issues related to SUBSAFE, DSS/SOC, and LEVEL 1 boundaries.
+ Advise Quality Director, Production Manager, and Programs Manager on technical issues to support schedule and efficiency goals.
Essential Skills:
+ High school diploma. (AS or BS degree preferred)
+ 10 years of waterfront technical engineering experience or 20 years of active service in the NAVY.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain access to U.S. Military bases and shipyards.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
+ Proficient knowledge in shipyard, marine, and commercial technical work practices.
+ Comprehensive understanding of OSHA Regulations for Shipyard Employment and NAVSEA standards.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.

+ Problem sensitivity and deductive reasoning abilities.
+ Visual color discrimination skills.
Work Environment:
+ The position is located in Portsmouth, VA, and involves working closely with the technical engineering team to support government and commercial contracts.
+ The role requires compliance with NAVSEA requirements and collaboration with QA and safety representatives.
+ The work environment is dynamic and requires proficiency in using various technical manuals and standards.
Job Type & Location:
+ This is a Permanent position based out of Portsmouth, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $105000.00/hr.
