    Job Title: Forklift Operator

    Job Description

    Responsible for accurately selecting block and masonry products ordered by customers and safely loading them onto delivery vehicles according to established safe loading procedures. Also responsible for performing routine maintenance on equipment, ensuring that the block yard area is properly maintained and organized, and assisting walk-up customers with loading materials as needed.

    Responsibilities

    + Observe and unload incoming material, checking quantity and type to match the bill of lading, and report any discrepancies to the customer service manager.

    + Operate a forklift to move, place, and load masonry products.

    + Conduct physical inventory of materials and finished products as needed.

    + Perform routine vehicle checks on front-end loaders and forklifts, and report problems to the mechanic.

    + Perform general housekeeping tasks in and around the plant building and yard, including sweeping, mopping, emptying trash, and cutting grass.

    + Maintain the orderly organization of equipment and supplies in and around the yard and plant.

    + Maintain cleanliness and appearance of plant grounds.

    + Observe all federal, state, local, and company safety policies, procedures, practices, and regulations while performing job duties.

    + Maintain current knowledge of masonry products produced and available for sale.

    + Assist customers with the selection of products, loading, and safely securing products on private vehicles.

    + Advise office of low inventory products.

    + Help with maintenance, mowing, etc. around the facility.

    + Perform other duties as directed by the customer service manager.

    Essential Skills

    + Experience with forklift operations, including sit-down forklifts.

    + Experience with front-end loaders.

    + Ability to handle various hand and power tools, water hoses, and push brooms.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Experience in loading, general labor, masonry, construction, bricklaying, unloading, and concrete work.

    Work Environment

     

    The majority of work is performed outside, exposing employees to various weather elements such as heat, cold, rain, and dust. There is occasional or frequent exposure to rough, muddy, and icy walking surfaces, high noise levels, and vibration. Workers frequently encounter moving parts and pieces of equipment, as well as dust, diesel fuel, propane, and other substances that may cause burns or be toxic if handled incorrectly.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Roanoke, Virginia.

     

    Pay and Benefits

     

    The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $19.00/hr.
