A postdoctoral fellow position is available in Dr. Peter McKenney’s laboratory in the Department of Immunology and Microbial Disease at Albany Medical College. We are looking for an individual with a passion for science and discovery to lead an independent project related to the lab’s research on biofilm dispersion, host-microbe interactions and bacterial cell biology of C. difficile and Enterococcus infection.
Job Duties:
• Design, conduct, and troubleshoot hypothesis-testing experiments
• Select and determine appropriate research procedures
• Collect, compile, and analyze data
• Conduct literature searches and summarize information
• Document and interpret experimental results
• Prepare figures to depict findings, write papers, and present at scientific meetings
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Ph.D. in microbiology, immunology, or a related area
+ Knowledge of bacteriology and molecular genetics
+ Competence in standard experimental techniques such as cloning, qPCR, fluorescence microscopy, etc.
+ Highly self-motivated with outstanding experimental skills and an ability to independently troubleshoot and adapt new techniques to our systems of study.
+ Demonstrated writing and presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience working with mouse models of infection or human organoid models
+ Experience working with 16S, metagenomic or RNA-seq sequencing data
+ Experience with anaerobic bacteriology
This is a full-time position with full medical benefits. The PI will work with the successful applicant to develop a training plan to guide the applicant in achieving their longer-term career goals.
