Ad SDK team builds advanced software development kits that enable seamless integration of advertising solutions into partner applications and platforms, both Microsoft and non-Microsoft. As a **Senior Software Engineer** , you'll be hands-on in designing and optimizing SDK components, especially for browsers using JavaScript and TypeScript. You should have a solid understanding of how browsers work under the hood, including rendering pipelines and performance tuning. You'll collaborate with teams around the world to build cross-platform solutions that reach millions of users. Expect to work on innovative features, improve the developer experience, and ensure everything meets high standards for security and privacy.

Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50- mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.
Responsibilities
+ Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a scenario.
+ Drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
+ Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
+ Leverages subject-matter expertise of product features and partners with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive a workgroup's project plans, release plans, and work items.
+ Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate.
+ Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, Javascript, Typescript, CSS and HTML
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ 3+ years experience of writing web applications code for browsers, knowledge of browser rendering pipelines, and performance optimization techniques.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
+ **Microsoft Cloud Background Check:** This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Demonstrated expertise in modern JavaScript and TypeScript, including advanced patterns (e.g., modular architecture, async programming, performance tuning).
+ Experience building complex, high-performance web applications or SDKs that integrate with large-scale platforms.
+ Demonstrated understanding of browser internals (DOM, CSSOM, rendering pipeline, event loop) and ability to optimize for speed and memory.
+ Hands-on experience with modern frontend frameworks (React, Angular, Vue) and state management patterns.
+ Knowledge of web standards and APIs, including security, accessibility (WCAG), and cross-browser compatibility best practices.
+ Experience with performance profiling and debugging tools (e.g., Chrome DevTools, Lighthouse) to diagnose and resolve bottlenecks.
+ Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing for frontend (e.g., Jest, Playwright).
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
