As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the CHSE (Cloud Hardware Systems Engineering) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for seasoned engineers with a dedicated passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.
We are looking for a hardware Sr. System Engineer to join the team.
Responsibilities
+ Work in the end-to-end hardware solution space, collaborating with cross-functional teams across silicon, platform, and customer groups.
+ Design, test, and debug complex hardware technologies for product development.
+ Develop guidelines for validation strategies, manufacturing, system bring-up, and system evaluation.
+ Lead platform and solution-level discussions to influence product architecture and ensure quality goals for reliability, safety, manufacturability, serviceability, and performance.
+ Learn and analyze new interfaces and subsystems, break down complex issues, and collaborate across teams to resolve them promptly.
+ Apply statistical analysis methods to identify complex issues affecting features or product design changes and propose solutions to novel problems.
+ Own the engineering interface between customers and development teams, including silicon, platform, ODM vendors, and factory test/calibration teams, through test/user scenario development.
+ Participate in design reviews between development teams and suppliers.
+ Perform New, Unique, Different (NUD) module feature analysis against supplier capabilities and provide risk mitigation for identified gaps and schedule impacts.
+ Analyze and evaluate build data for each module engineering build, present summaries to development teams, and adjust test specification limits based on analysis.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
+ Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience
+ OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ 3+ years of relevant experience in FPGA and/or embedded system design and validation across all stages of the development and product release cycles.
+ 3+ years of experience with hardware, firmware, & software (system & application stack) interfaces across all modules in a system.
**Other Qualifications** :
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
+ Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience with system engineering processes and practices, including requirements definition, architecture, implementation, and validation.
+ Ability to assess technical risks, drive solutions, and perform impact assessments.
+ Experience developing and executing hardware verification and functional test plans.
+ Experience collaborating across disciplines and organizations to resolve complex issues.
+ Effective communication skills (verbal and written).
+ Knowledge of high-volume server and FPGA card design and manufacturing.
+ Knowledge of high-speed networking, system interconnect, and memory technologies (PCIe, DDR-DRAM, I2C/SPI/SMBUS).
+ Ability to perform in a fast-paced product development environment, including designing, testing, and debugging complex hardware technologies.
+ Knowledge of datacenter operations at scale.
+ Experience managing hardware programs through the entire product lifecycle.
Hardware Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
