We are looking for:
This co-op position includes responsibility for carrying out analyses on various samples for research and customer driven projects in both the Polymer Additives and Mining business lines. The position will focus on analytical techniques in Separation science.
Separations based analyses: The co-op will work with experienced separation group members to execute identification and/or quantitation of molecules in complex mixtures. Examples include quantitation of additive mixtures in polyolefins, as well as identification of the major reaction products versus the impurities during the synthesis process. The co-op will learn and then perform analyses using liquid and gas chromatography (LC and GC) with a variety of detectors including UV-Vis, CAD and Mass Spectrometry.
The co-op will write well-documented reports and communicate clearly with project teams and scientists. The role will require extensive interactions with research and development, process development, plants, technical services and other members of the analytical department.

Position Responsibilities
+ The analyst will provide chromatography analysis of small molecules and polymers.
+ Techniques include: liquid chromatography (LC), ultra-high pressure LC (UPLC), gas chromatography (GC), LC/GC combined with high-resolution mass spectrometry (MS).
+ Effective oral and written communication skills. Document work in electronic notebooks, reports and communicate with customers and colleagues.
+ Results should be well-organized, written and communicated clearly in a timely manner with project teams and scientists.
+ Manage daily laboratory activities including instrument maintenance, housekeeping and chemical waste.

+ Understand and follow key Syensqo safety policies and procedures for the site, including but not limited to the following:
+ Emergency Response / Evacuation Guidelines
+ Visitor Safety Policy
+ Housekeeping – 5S organization of laboratories
+ Demonstrate a commitment to safety
+ Attend monthly safety training
+ Know the location of first aid and emergency response equipment, chemicals, and chemical documentation.
+ Obtain equipment or process specific safety training as necessary according to the specific hazards
+ Long periods standing while working in the laboratory

You will bring:
+ A current BS/MS student in Analytical Chemistry or related discipline (Chemistry, Biology, etc).
+ Prior experience in analytical techniques is preferred but not necessary.
+ The abilities to work well in technical workgroups, write well-documented reports, and communicate clearly are required.
