    JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    This position with the Orange County Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is primarily responsible for certifying potential low risk participants to the program and for providing nutrition education and breastfeeding education. Travel may be required, therefore, a valid state of Florida driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle are mandatory.

     

    Certifies clients for participation in the WIC Program in accordance with DHM 150-24. Follows policies and procedures for collection, entry and management of data, as well as operation of WIC computer equipment as stated in DHM 150-24 and the WIC System Guide.

     

    Provides culturally relevant nutrition education on an individual basis in the areas of infant, childhood, prenatal and postnatal (including breastfeeding) nutrition to promote development and maintenance of good nutrition. Develops, monitors, evaluates and revises nutrition education plans for individual clients not at medically high risk. Selects, develops and evaluates client educational materials. Coordinates nutrition education services for assigned clients and makes referrals for appropriate services.

     

    Generates required administrative and nutrition reports on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis as needed. The role involves compiling data, analyzing trends, and providing summaries to ensure accurate reporting and informed decision-making. Reviews findings, identifies key insights, and submits results to the supervisor in a timely manner, supporting operational efficiency and program effectiveness.

     

    Senior Health Educator will serve as a professional representative of the program during outreach activities, including nutrition education classes. The educator is expected to deliver culturally sensitive, evidence-based nutrition education tailored to diverse audiences, promote WIC services and breastfeeding support. Accurate monthly documentation of outreach efforts is expected to be send to immediate supervisor.

     

    Evaluates program eligibility status of each client to ensure that a valid issuance of electronic benefits can be performed. Issues WIC Program electronic benefits to certified participants in accordance with procedures outlined in DHM 150-24 and the Florida WiSE System Manual. Schedules appointments for participants through the WIC appointment system. Reviews use of electronic benefits in approved grocery stores. Answers questions regarding access to WIC program services.

     

    Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service training sessions, and other professional and staff development activities. Participates in Orange County WIC Program Outreach events County. Performs other related duties as requested or as required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES, INCLUDING UTILIZATION OF EQUIPMENT, REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION:

    Ability to understand the role of nutrition and dietetics in maternal and child health, and the ability to provide culturally relevant nutrition education. Key responsibilities include developing and evaluating client education plans, selecting appropriate materials, and coordinating services while ensuring effective communication and collaboration with healthcare teams. The position also involves assessing client needs, making referrals, and supporting overall nutrition and wellness goals.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with specific major in dietetics, food and nutrition or food service management.

     

    One year of verifiable WIC experience.

     

    Currently a Florida Department of Health (DOH) employee.

     

    Currently have a valid Florida Driver’s License. If not, you will be required to get a Florida Driver’s License within 30 days of hire.

     

    In the absence of a county vehicle, you must have access to a person vehicle or reliable transportation.

     

    Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. This may include working in a special needs or Red Cross shelter, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. Emergency duties may also include in-state and/or out-of-state deployment.
