Description
JOB FUNCTION:
To ensure long-term impact, the Nutrition Associate will oversee implementation of all program components, coordinating efforts among partners, consultants, and Head Start centers. The Nutrition Associate will collaborate with Gateway’s Millcreek Farms program to establish dedicated greenhouses that will produce fresh, healthy foods for Head Start children. Gateway will also partner with external mental health consultants to integrate a mental health component into nutrition education and cooking classes. Members of Gateway’s Mental Health/Disabilities team will participate in these classes to build internal expertise and reduce long-term reliance on outside providers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
+ Coordinate nutrition program activities across Head Start centers, consultants, and community partners.
+ Collaborate with Millcreek Farms to establish and maintain greenhouses that provide fresh produce for Head Start children.
+ Partner with external consultants to integrate mental health strategies into nutrition education and cooking classes.
+ Facilitate participation of Gateway’s Mental Health/Disabilities team in nutrition and cooking classes to build internal expertise.
+ Support the design and delivery of family-focused nutrition education, including cooking demonstrations and workshops.
+ Assist in developing training materials and resources for staff on nutrition and wellness practices.
+ Ensure program activities align with Head Start Performance Standards and CACFP guidelines.
+ Maintain accurate records of program activities and contribute to required reports.
+ Provide culturally responsive nutrition resources to families and staff.
+ Assist with other duties as assigned to support the nutrition and wellness program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Health Education, or related field (or equivalent experience).
+ Experience working in Head Start, or community-based nutrition programs preferred.
+ Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across multiple partners.
+ Knowledge of child nutrition, food systems, and wellness education.
