    POSITION SUMMARY

    Generation Planning and Development is primarily responsible for supporting Southern Company’s retail operating companies with the siting, development, and deployment of power generation and energy storage resources. The successful candidate for this position will serve as a key project development team member focused primarily on the development of new thermal assets by participating on cross functional project team(s) in pre-development, development, and approval of new, fossil-fired resources.

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Leading and serving on cross-functional teams of internal stakeholder groups including, but not limited to, Technical Shared Services (TSS), Accounting Finance and Treasury (AFT), Environmental Affairs (EA), Power Delivery (PD), Fuels, Legal, Plant Operations, and Supply Chain (SCM)

    + Lead role in the development, negotiation, and execution of major capital project contracts (e.g. OEM CT/ST/HRSG equipment, external EPC, etc.)

    + Performing market intelligence efforts (technology development, pricing, and commercial viability)

    + Preparation of comprehensive project costs and the associated business case(s)

    + Performance of Lifecycle Cost Analysis (LCA) including economic evaluations and profitability analysis using spreadsheets, production simulation software and financial models

    + Preparation and presentation of project details and decision points to all levels of enterprise-wide management and peer groups

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    _Education:_

    + Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, applied science, mathematics, economics or finance required

    + Advanced degree is desirable; MBA preferred

    _Experience:_

    + Proven and demonstrated success leading and/or serving on cross-company, multi-function enterprise teams

    + In-depth knowledge and demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and/or operation of major capital projects (power generation technologies is highly desired)

    + Experience in or exposure to System Planning, Technical Shared Services, Power Delivery (Transmission and/or Distribution), Fuel Services, and Environmental Affairs is preferred

    + Experience in project development, project management and/or leadership, large capital projects, contract development, contract negotiation and contract management/administration is a plus

    + Proven and demonstrated analytic skills including the ability to communicate complex topics verbally and in written form

    + Proficiency with standard analytical and business software such as Microsoft Office applications is required

    + Exhibited high proficiency in the development and delivery of information using Excel and PowerPoint and other visual messaging software

    + Experience with fundamental production cost models such as Aurora is preferred

    + Demonstrated project management capabilities with proven ability to prioritize multiple projects and/or issues with conflicting deadlines and/or business unit drivers

    + Outstanding written and oral communication skills presenting complex information to management

    ADDITIONAL DETAILS

    + This position will require up to 25% travel (day-trip & overnight), primarily within the Southern Company retail footprint

    + Some relocation assistance is available if the selected candidate currently resides outside the Birmingham area
